- Strong understanding of Oracle Database@Azure architecture, where Exadata infrastructure runs in Azure data centers while being managed through the OCI control plane and provisioned via the Azure portal.
- Experience linking Azure subscriptions with OCI tenancies, including onboarding workflows and service enablement.
- Hands-on expertise in provisioning Exadata Infrastructure, VM Clusters, and Databases using the Oracle Database@Azure portal.
- Familiarity with supported deployment models (X9M, X11M, Exascale), regional availability, quotas, and maintenance configurations.
- Knowledge of key differences between OCI-native and Azure-integrated deployments, including subnet design and IP allocation constraints.
2. Networking & Connectivity (Azure-focused, OCI-aware)
- Design and implementation of Azure Virtual Networks (VNet) tailored for Oracle Database@Azure deployments.
- Experience configuring delegated subnets, NSGs, route tables, and hub-and-spoke architectures with NVAs (e.g., Azure Firewall).
- Understanding of private networking principles, including restricted internet egress and split DNS configurations.
- Hands-on experience with hybrid connectivity solutions such as ExpressRoute and Site-to-Site VPN.
- Ability to design secure, resilient routing paths between on-premises, Azure, and OCI environments.
3. Security, Identity & Governance
- Implementation of Azure RBAC, policies, and governance frameworks for Oracle workloads.
- Secure design of delegated subnets with enforced network controls and traffic inspection.
- Experience with Azure Key Vault for managing database credentials, secrets, and wallet files.
- Familiarity with monitoring and compliance tools such as Azure Monitor, Defender for Cloud, and Azure Arc integration.
4. Oracle Database & Exadata Administration
- Strong foundation in Exadata architecture, including storage cells, ASM, DB nodes, and RAC environments.
- Experience with database performance tuning using AWR reports and resource management tools (IORM).
- Administration of CDB/PDB architectures in production environments.
- Knowledge of patching cycles, lifecycle management, and system optimization.
5. Backup, Recovery & High Availability
- Expertise in RMAN-based backup and recovery strategies.
- Implementation and management of Oracle Data Guard configurations for HA/DR.
- Ability to design and execute failover and switchover strategies aligned with business RPO/RTO objectives.
- Understanding of service-managed backup networks in Oracle Database@Azure.
6. Migration Expertise (Critical)
- Proven experience in database migrations using RMAN, Data Pump, Data Guard, GoldenGate, and especially Oracle Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM).
- Ability to plan and execute near-zero downtime migrations from on-premises Exadata to Oracle Database@Azure.
- Familiarity with migration blueprints, including network setup, routing through hub NVAs, and staged execution plans.
7. Automation, Scripting & Infrastructure as Code
- Proficiency in scripting using Azure CLI, PowerShell, or similar tools.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as ARM, Bicep, Terraform, or OpenTofu.
- Ability to automate provisioning of networking, compute, and Oracle Database@Azure resources.
- Implementation of CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for infrastructure deployment and validation.
8. Monitoring, Capacity Planning & Performance
- Experience with Azure Monitor and Oracle-native monitoring tools for tracking performance and availability.
- Ability to define alerting strategies for latency, throughput, and system health.
- Strong understanding of capacity planning based on workload analysis and AWR insights.
- Knowledge of VM cluster sizing, storage configuration, and regional deployment constraints.
9. Project Execution & Risk Management
- Ownership of migration and deployment runbooks, including dry runs, validation steps, and rollback procedures.
- Experience managing cutover activities, including DNS and application switchover.
- Strong coordination with cross-functional teams (application, network, security, DBA).
- Ensuring stakeholder alignment on RPO/RTO targets and minimal downtime objectives.
