Job Description:
Position Summary
The Data & Analytics Manager is responsible for leading the design, delivery, and governance of the company’s enterprise data environment. This role ensures data from multiple systems flows through our Bronze → Silver → Gold lakehouse architecture, arrives in business-ready data marts, and powers standardized Power BI semantic models used across the organization.
This is a hands-on player–coach role providing architectural direction, defining technical standards, managing the offshore data engineering partner, and guiding Power BI analysts to build scalable, governed, and reusable analytics assets.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Framework Ownership
- Own and maintain the company’s data architecture spanning Azure Data Lake, Synapse Serverless SQL, and Power BI.
- Enforce architectural standards for Bronze (raw), Silver (enriched), Gold (conformed/data marts) layers.
- Define and maintain data contracts, conformed dimensions, surrogate key strategy, and domain boundaries.
- Drive standardization of fact and dimension table naming, grains, lineage, and quality checks.
Data Delivery & Modeling
- Lead the creation and enhancement of Gold Layer data marts for Sales, Finance, Workforce, and Operations.
- Design and approve Power BI semantic models for each domain, ensuring business-friendly usability.
- Direct handling of new data sources: onboarding, normalization, conformance, and surfacing to marts & models.
- Review and approve SQL, data transformations, and semantic models for technical accuracy and scalability.
Team Leadership & Vendor Management
- Lead and mentor the internal Power BI Analyst team (2) and manage the offshore vendor’s backlog and priorities.
- Translate business requests into structured build requirements aligned to the architecture.
- Reduce dependency on temporary analyst-built logic by embedding patterns and upskilling the team.
- Set quarterly objectives, delivery expectations, and quality standards for the offshore engineering vendor.
Governance, Quality, & Enablement
- Establish lightweight governance standards: data dictionary updates, semantic model certification, lineage tagging.
- Maintain definitions for KPIs, metrics, and shared dimensions; prevent “report-specific datasets”.
- Partner with business functions (Sales, Finance, Operations) to convert requirements into scalable data assets.
- Champion a self-service analytics approach by enabling report authors to use certified semantic models.
Continuous Improvement
- Own the roadmap for retiring legacy data structures (e.g., fct.invoice_header) and migrating to conformed models.
- Implement monitoring and quality controls ensuring data reliability and timeliness.
- Recommend tools, processes, and training to advance analytics maturity.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years in data engineering, analytics, business intelligence, or data architecture roles.
- Strong experience in Microsoft Azure (ADLS Gen2, Synapse Serverless SQL, pipelines, Delta/Parquet).
- Expertise in dimensional modeling, conformed dimensions, star schema, and semantic model design.
- Proficient with Power BI datasets, relationships, calculation groups, DAX fundamentals, and data modeling.
- Demonstrated ability to lead architecture decisions and enforce standards in a collaborative way.
- Experience directing offshore or vendor partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with multi-ERP environments and merging data across systems.
- Background designing surrogate key strategies, keymap schemas, and SCD2 dimensions.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps pipelines, CI/CD for analytics, Git, or DBT/Fabric/Databricks (nice to have).
- Experience operationalizing enterprise semantic models for executive reporting.
