Title: Power Supply Engineer (Analog)
Location: Santa Clara, CA- Onsite
Ideal Start Date: 10/12/2026
Duration: 12 months+, very possible extension or conversion to permanent
Background Check Required
Project Details:
The client is seeking a team-oriented Power Supply Engineer (Analog) to join the Power Systems Engineering group supporting the development of industry-leading Cloud Networking Ethernet switches.
The Power Systems Engineering team is responsible for custom power supply design and implementation for networking product chassis. Power systems can range from approximately 100 W to 1 kW per individual power supply, with multiple supplies working together to support chassis-level systems totaling multi-kilowatt power levels. The team also designs systems incorporating load sharing, redundant power architectures, and multiple AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion stages.
The engineer will have the opportunity to work with experienced engineering and technical leaders to drive the design, development, characterization, qualification, and implementation of multi-kilowatt AC/DC and DC/DC chassis power systems from concept through production.
Responsibilities include defining and developing power supplies to meet product and market requirements, performing hands-on laboratory characterization, and debugging, working closely with power supply vendors and their engineering teams, monitoring vendor performance, documenting results, reporting technical issues, and communicating power-system performance to internal and external stakeholders.
The engineer will also collaborate with mechanical, compliance, systems, diagnostic, software, and other engineering teams to ensure the power distribution architecture meets system requirements and applicable national and international regulatory standards.
The role requires strong ownership of projects from concept through production, including requirements definition, vendor management, technical reviews, qualification, compliance, characterization, debugging, and production readiness.
Musts:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with power electronics and willingness to spend significant time in the lab.
- Strong knowledge of analog and power circuit design and qualification.
- Excellent knowledge of AC/DC and DC/DC power supply design and system-level power distribution.
- Experience designing, developing, qualifying, or sourcing power supplies in the 400 W–3 kW range, with both AC and DC input power.
- Understanding of power distribution and architecture for large modular systems with total power levels around 20 kW.
- Familiarity with dual-grid and redundant AC/DC or DC/DC system architectures.
- Experience with regulatory processes associated with designing and certifying power supplies for commercial electronics.
- Experience working directly with power supply vendors and their engineering organizations.
- Ability to lead projects with overseas vendor engineering teams from concept through production.
- Strong laboratory skills, including power supply characterization, validation, troubleshooting, and debugging.
- Ability to define technical requirements and specifications for custom power supplies.
- Strong understanding of system-level power requirements, load sharing, redundancy, and power distribution.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate requirements, technical issues, critical paths, and schedules.
- Ability to write clear and effective technical reports and present technical information to power engineers, systems engineers, software engineers, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in a custom product development environment.
Pluses:
- Experience with multi-kilowatt AC/DC and DC/DC chassis power systems.
- Experience with Ethernet switches, cloud networking equipment, servers, data-center hardware, or other high-power computing/networking platforms.
- Experience with 20 kW-class system power architectures.
- Experience with load-sharing architectures involving multiple power supplies.
- Experience working with international power supply vendors and offshore engineering teams.
- Experience with next-generation power architecture definition and innovation.
- Experience collaborating with mechanical and compliance teams on power distribution and regulatory requirements.
- Experience working with system diagnostic and software engineering teams on power monitoring and compliance testing.
- Experience taking custom power supply designs through qualification and production.
- Familiarity with national and international regulatory standards applicable to commercial power electronics.
