Job Title: Staff Software Engineer / Senior Tools Engineer (Game Tools & AI)

Location:  Los Angeles, CA (1-2 Days Onsite in a week)

Job Description

As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll bring deep knowledge of specific technical areas while valuing the opportunity to work across a variety of broader domains. You'll drive tooling features both in- and out-of-engine that empower creatives and provide other engineers with a clear illustration of extraordinary engineering.

As a Software Engineer III on an unannounced R&D project, you will explore new content creation workflows that empower creatives to focus on iteration, not implementation. You will work closely with designers, artists, and other engineers to understand their needs and will be hands-on in conceptualizing, planning, and implementing AI-powered solutions to increase developer efficiency. You will be at the forefront of cutting-edge AI in the game industry, bridging the gap between new technologies and novel, world-class player experiences. You will report to the Director of Engineering of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain tools and processes in direct collaboration with the Art discipline.
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline developers to gather requirements.
  • Participate in and guide technical design and implementation.
  • Help shape the technical direction and standards for the team.
  • Contribute substantially to the codebase.
  • Oversee the quality and maintainability of your code.
  • Mentor other engineers on the team in all aspects of game development.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of game development experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building tools for a cross-disciplinary team.
  • 3+ years of experience building tools for artists.
  • Professional experience creating tools in Unreal Engine 4 or 5.
  • Experience building tools and extensions for modern DCCs such as Maya and Photoshop.
  • Experience building tools using modern cross-platform frameworks such as Qt, Electron, or web-based frameworks like React.
  • Strong knowledge of common game and software design patterns.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with teammates across multiple disciplines.
  • Extensive contribution to at least one shipped game title.
  • Product sense, pragmatism, and player empathy in making technical decisions.

Desired Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience using Unreal Engine.
  • Experience augmenting content creation workflows with Generative AI.
  • Familiarity with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) or LLM orchestration.
  • Experience with visual scripting systems.
  • Deep knowledge of modern C++.
  • Experience working collaboratively with other engineers on technical design and implementation.
