Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid -
3 days onsite / 2 remote)
Secondary consideration: Fort Mill, SC if Austin-based candidates are not available
Role OverviewWe are seeking a
highly process-driven Project Manager / Scrum Master to support a
purely Agile Enterprise PMO (EPMO) within a
complex, fast-moving technology organization.
While teams operate in Agile delivery models, this role uniquely requires
strong Waterfall discipline, including
critical path analysis, dependency management, and Gantt-based planning, to support initiatives that do not cleanly fit into sprint-based delivery. Many of these efforts are
business-critical but not always top-priority or fully funded, requiring a PM who can
create structure, visibility, and momentum in ambiguity.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in the
"messy middle"-coordinating across teams, mentoring engineers and delivery leads, and ensuring leadership has
clear insight into timelines, risks, blockers, and downstream impacts.
Key Responsibilities- Manage 10-15 concurrent, multi-month initiatives with complex dependencies and competing priorities.
- Build and maintain detailed project plans, including:
- Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
- Milestones and delivery phases
- Dependency mapping and critical path analysis
- Identify, track, and communicate blockers, risks, and impacts to delivery timelines.
- Apply Waterfall planning rigor (Gantt charts, sequencing, critical paths) in an otherwise Agile delivery environment.
- Support (but do not directly manage) 50-60 JIRA tickets, guiding teams on:
- Effective JIRA hygiene
- Ticket structure and prioritization
- Clear ownership and workflow discipline
- Use Smartsheet extensively to:
- Track projects and dependencies
- Build and maintain Gantt charts
- Provide leadership-level reporting
- Bridge tooling differences between JIRA and Smartsheet to deliver a single, coherent view of delivery health.
- Analyze and improve process flows across project and operational work, often in environments with minimal existing documentation.
- Operate as a coordinator and mentor, enabling engineering teams to own delivery while ensuring accountability and forward progress.
- Push work forward relentlessly, even when initiatives are not formally prioritized.
Required Skills & Experience- 7+ years of hands-on Project Management experience
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects with heavy dependencies
- Strong Waterfall planning experience (Gantt charts, critical path, sequencing)
- Experience working in Agile environments that still require Waterfall discipline
- Working knowledge of JIRA (governance, hygiene, prioritization guidance)
- Strong Smartsheet experience for project tracking and visualization
- Demonstrated process improvement experience
- Exceptional attention to detail, follow-through, and organization
- Ability to operate effectively with limited structure and evolving priorities
Nice to Have- Scrum Master experience (certification not required)
- Experience supporting unfunded or lower-priority but high-impact initiatives
- Experience in large enterprise or technology-driven organizations
