Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Technical Manager of Test Engineering to lead our shock and vibrations department. This role reports into our Hardware Design Engineering department. As part of our Shock and Vibrations Test Engineering Team, you will be involved in managing and mentoring test and analysis engineers, developing test strategies and prioritizing tests, in partnership with structural design teams. What you'll do:

• Technical Leadership & Design Influence: Serve as the subject matter expert and mentor for a high-performing team of test engineers. You will oversee daily test execution and high-fidelity data processing to ensure the team hits critical program milestones while directly influencing structural and material design to guarantee product robustness against harsh environmental disturbances.
• Predictive Modeling & Validation: Partner with analysts to build and refine dynamic and static models. You'll use these models to identify risks before hitting the lab and leverage test results to continuously improve model confidence.
• Risk-Based Strategy & Failure Analysis: Architect comprehensive test profiles and strategies to systematically "burn down" technical risks across complex systems. You will be a key driver of the DFMEA process, providing expert inputs on shock and vibration failure modes to ensure potential vulnerabilities are identified and mitigated early in the design cycle.
• Cross-Functional Design Influence: Act as the critical link between the Test and Design teams. You will influence early-stage hardware concepts and translate test failures into actionable design recommendations to improve product robustness.
• Executive Stakeholder Management: Distill complex technical data into clear, high-level briefings for the executive team, providing transparent updates on test status and overall program risk.
• Operational Excellence: Drive team efficiency by developing internal tools and standardizing reporting and data analysis workflows to scale our output.

What you'll bring:

• Subject Matter Expertise: 10+ years of deep technical experience in Shock and Vibration testing and analysis, with a proven track record of managing complex hardware verification programs.
• Data-Driven Strategy: Extensive experience architecting test strategies, processing high-bandwidth vibration data, and translating raw results into actionable engineering insights that directly impact product reliability.
• Design Partnership: A demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic partner to Design Engineering, bridging the gap between theoretical design and physical validation to influence early-stage hardware concepts.
• Leadership & Mentorship: Proven success in building, mentoring, and scaling high-performing engineering teams, with a focus on fostering technical growth and operational excellence.
• Executive Presence: Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with the ability to distill complex technical risks into clear, high-level narratives for executive stakeholders.
• Analytical Rigor: Proficiency in closing the loop between test and analysis, ensuring that empirical data is used to increase the fidelity of static and dynamic models.
