Job Description:

Data Engineer (Snowflake / dbt / Databricks) Location: Remote (US) Type: 6-month contract

About the Role Apex Systems is looking for a Data Engineer to join an enterprise data team. The team is moving to a modern data stack while also running several large modernization efforts and shutting down legacy platforms. You'll own day-to-day pipeline development and support, and help build out new tools as the team adopts dbt, Dagster, and Databricks. This role is a great fit for an engineer who communicates well, works with urgency, and takes pride in quality work.

What You'll Do
  • Build, maintain, and support ELT/ETL pipelines that move data from source applications into Snowflake for reporting and analytics.
  • Develop reusable datasets and transformations using dbt, Databricks, and Spark as the team adopts these tools.
  • Configure and support scheduled workflows using JAMS, Dagster, or similar orchestration tools.
  • Use Azure DevOps CI/CD practices to develop, test, and deploy data pipelines.
  • Build data-quality checks for completeness, accuracy, freshness, and schema changes.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, take part in on-call support, and document fixes to prevent repeat problems.
  • Work with data modelers, DBAs, architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to turn requirements into maintainable solutions.
  • Maintain documentation, including data flows, transformation logic, dependencies, and support guides.
  • Take part in code reviews, agile ceremonies, and knowledge sharing with the team.

Required Skills
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on production experience with Snowflake.
  • Advanced Python and SQL.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD, including source control, pull requests, and automated deployments.
  • Experience designing and operating scalable batch or streaming data pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of data warehouse, data lake, lakehouse, and dimensional modeling concepts.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, a sense of urgency, and a commitment to quality work.

Nice to Have
  • Snowflake certification (SnowPro).
  • Hands-on experience building with dbt, Dagster, and/or Databricks.
  • SSIS and/or SSAS experience.
  • Experience with JAMS or another enterprise scheduler, such as Control-M or Autosys.
  • Experience with legacy ETL migration or platform modernization, such as moving off Informatica or SSIS.
  • Experience with Grafana or similar monitoring tools.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools.

Why Apex Systems You'll work on meaningful modernization work at a large enterprise, gain hands-on experience with a modern data stack, and be supported by a dedicated Apex team throughout your assignment.
