Location: Remote

Duration:  12 Months

Position Overview:

We are seeking a senior, hands-on Agent Engineer to design, build, integrate, and operationalize enterprise AI agents. This player-coach will own significant portions of the technical implementation, establish practical engineering patterns, guide an AI Developer, and partner with technology, product, platform, security, privacy, data, and governance stakeholders. The initial engagement is a six-month, full-time contract-to-hire opportunity. The role is remote eligible within the United States with onsite flexibility required; the onsite location, cadence, travel expectations, and final conversion terms are to be determined.

Responsibilities:

Tools and Technologies:

Microsoft Copilot; Microsoft Copilot Studio; ChatGPT Professional; Azure OpenAI; Azure Functions; Azure Logic Apps; Azure API Management; Microsoft Power Platform; ServiceNow; Python; JavaScript; TypeScript; REST APIs; JSON; Git; CI/CD; automated testing; observability and telemetry; identity, authentication, authorization, and secrets management.

Design and build enterprise AI agents, assistants, automations, and tool-enabled workflows.

·        Define agent architecture, orchestration patterns, prompts, instructions, tools, connectors, application programming interfaces (APIs), and data flows.

·        Implement secure integrations across Microsoft cloud services, software as a service (SaaS) tooling, ServiceNow, and other enterprise platforms.

·        Build and validate ServiceNow connector patterns, including authentication, permissions, data access, workflow actions, and failure handling.

·        Use Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Professional, and related AI capabilities to accelerate solution development and improve team productivity.

·        Establish engineering patterns for agent lifecycle management, testing, versioning, observability, support, and release.

·        Convert manual or inconsistent processes into documented, repeatable workflows supported by automation or agents.

·        Partner with governance, security, privacy, data, and platform teams to implement guardrails, access controls, data protection, auditability, and human oversight.

·        Evaluate agent behavior, accuracy, reliability, safety, performance, and operational readiness.

·        Troubleshoot issues across prompts, models, connectors, APIs, cloud services, identity, and application workflows.

·        Provide technical direction and day-to-day guidance to the AI Developer.

·        Create architecture notes, runbooks, decision records, support procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials.

·        Communicate tradeoffs, risks, dependencies, and delivery status to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Qualifications:

·        6+ years of professional experience in software engineering, application integration, platform engineering, or a related field.

·        Demonstrated experience designing and building AI agents, large language model (LLM)-enabled applications, enterprise assistants, or workflow automation solutions.

·        Strong hands-on programming experience with Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or comparable languages.

·        Deep understanding of REST APIs, JSON, authentication, authorization, identity, secrets, webhooks, and enterprise integration patterns.

·        Experience with Microsoft cloud services and enterprise productivity platforms.

·        Practical experience with Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, ChatGPT Professional, or comparable enterprise AI tooling.

·        Experience integrating AI or automation solutions with ServiceNow or a comparable IT service management (ITSM) or workflow platform.

·        Ability to establish structure where processes, standards, and operating procedures are still emerging.

·        Working knowledge of AI governance concerns, including data access, privacy, security, logging, human oversight, and change control.

·        Strong technical communication, stakeholder management, and mentoring skills.

·        Willingness to work onsite when needed and serve as the primary onsite-flexible resource for the initial team.

·        Preferred: Experience with Azure OpenAI, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, API Management, Power Platform, Copilot Studio, or related Azure services.

·        Preferred: Experience with agent orchestration, tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), grounding, evaluation, prompt management, or multi-agent workflows.

·        Preferred: Experience implementing ServiceNow APIs, connectors, workflows, knowledge integrations, catalog actions, or incident and request automation.

·        Preferred: Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), Git, automated testing, observability, telemetry, and production support.

·        Preferred: Experience designing secure SaaS integrations, working with enterprise identity and access controls, and creating governance-ready architecture documentation.

·        Preferred: Experience mentoring developers or acting as a technical lead on a delivery team.
