Job Description
We are seeking a mid-level Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Engineer to support and maintain production cloud environments for a large federal transportation organization. This role focuses on hands-on GCP administration, automation, cloud migration, and platform support within a secure, compliance-driven environment.
The GCP Engineer will work closely with platform, security, networking, and application teams to ensure cloud infrastructure is stable, secure, and scalable. The role emphasizes real-world operational experience over certifications and requires comfort supporting live production systems, troubleshooting issues, and improving environments through automation and Infrastructure as Code.
This position exists to support ongoing cloud migration and modernization initiatives, including on-premises to cloud and cloud-to-cloud transitions, while maintaining day-to-day reliability of existing GCP workloads.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer and support GCP organizations, projects, billing, and resource structures.
- Manage IAM roles, service accounts, and access controls using least-privilege principles.
- Configure and maintain VPC networking, firewall rules, VPNs, and hybrid connectivity.
- Monitor platform health using Cloud Monitoring, Logging, and alerting tools.
- Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Design, deploy, and maintain infrastructure using Terraform and other IaC tools.
- Automate operational tasks using Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Workflows, and Cloud Scheduler.
- Develop and maintain scripts using Python and/or shell scripting.
- Support cloud migration efforts, including planning, execution, and post-migration stabilization.
- Assist with application support on Compute Engine, GKE, Cloud Run, and App Engine.
- Collaborate with security, networking, and application teams on integrations and platform improvements.
- Document configurations, processes, and operational procedures.
Required Experience / Skills
- 3–6 years of hands-on experience working with Google Cloud Platform in production environments.
- Strong experience administering GCP services such as IAM, VPC, Compute Engine, and Cloud Storage.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
- Experience supporting cloud migrations (on-prem to cloud and/or cloud-to-cloud).
- Proficiency with Python and/or shell scripting.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting in cloud environments.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with GKE or containerized workloads.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.).
- Exposure to data platforms such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, or Dataflow.
- Experience with enterprise identity integrations (Google Workspace, Active Directory, SSO).
- Familiarity with cloud security best practices in regulated environments.
- Google Cloud certifications (Associate or Professional).
