Job Description
We are seeking a Senior IT Project Manager with strong healthcare claims, Medicaid, data exchange, vendor management, and technical project management experience.
The Senior IT Project Manager will lead complex, high-impact technical projects supporting improved healthcare care management and claims data exchange initiatives. The role will work closely with NC Medicaid, NC HIEA, technical implementation vendors, internal IT teams, external agencies, and healthcare stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing healthcare IT projects, translating healthcare claims requirements into technical requirements, overseeing vendor implementations, managing UAT issues, and delivering projects using established project management methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex healthcare IT projects involving healthcare claims and data exchange.
- Utilize healthcare claims expertise to clarify requirements and evaluate technical impacts.
- Manage and track UAT issues, defects, resolutions, and dependencies.
- Provide project management oversight for vendor implementation projects.
- Ensure vendor deliverables meet contractual requirements, project scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Develop and maintain integrated project plans covering scope, schedule, requirements, risks, communications, dependencies, and change control.
- Manage project risks, issues, blockers, decisions, dependencies, and change requests.
- Provide regular project status reports to stakeholders.
- Track project milestones, deliverables, and action items.
- Coordinate technical implementation activities across internal teams, vendors, and external organizations.
- Work closely with program managers and technical leads to manage assigned workstreams.
- Support healthcare claims and supplementary information exchange with other payers.
- Facilitate meetings with business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, and government agencies.
- Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Maintain project documentation, requirements, issue logs, risk registers, status reports, and other project artifacts.
- Apply recognized project management methodologies and SDLC practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years of healthcare claims experience
- 7+ years of project management experience
- 7+ years of vendor implementation/project oversight experience
- 5+ years managing integrated project plans
- 5+ years managing project scope, schedule, requirements, risks, communication, and change control
- 3+ years preparing project status reports covering progress, risks, blockers, and decisions
- Strong experience with UAT, issue resolution, requirements gathering, and defect tracking
- Strong understanding of healthcare claims and healthcare data exchange
- Experience working with technical implementation vendors
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Medicaid or state government healthcare programs
- Experience with Health Information Exchange (HIE)
- Experience with NC Medicaid / NC HealthConnex is a plus
- Experience with care management data exchange
- Experience with claims exchange and supplementary healthcare information
- Experience managing federally funded healthcare IT programs
- Experience working with multiple vendors, state agencies, and external stakeholders
- Knowledge of healthcare IT systems and data integration
