Job Overview
Client is seeking an experienced Senior SDET / QA Automation Engineer to support critical Risk-related applications within its technology organization. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in both functional QA and automated testing, with the ability to design and maintain scalable automation frameworks across UI, API, and backend systems.
The candidate will work closely with developers, DevOps engineers, business stakeholders, and Project/Program Managers to ensure high-quality software delivery. The role requires strong technical expertise in Python, AWS, Snowflake, SQL, Oracle, CI/CD, and database testing, along with a solid understanding of Agile software development and testing methodologies.
Experience within Financial Services, Credit Risk, or Market Risk environments is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
1. Test Automation & Framework Development
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance robust test automation frameworks.
- Develop automated tests for:
- Web/UI applications
- REST/API services
- Backend systems
- Database-driven applications
- Create reusable and scalable automation components.
- Identify manual test cases that can be automated to improve testing efficiency and coverage.
- Maintain existing automation suites and troubleshoot automation failures.
- Apply automation best practices and contribute to continuous improvement of the QA framework.
2. Functional & Manual Testing
- Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into comprehensive test scenarios.
- Develop detailed:
- Test Plans
- Test Cases
- Test Scripts
- Test Data
- Expected Results
- Execute functional, regression, integration, system, and end-to-end testing.
- Validate application functionality across front-end and back-end components.
- Perform manual testing when automation is not appropriate.
- Retest application fixes and verify defect resolution.
3. API & Backend Testing
- Develop and execute automated API test scenarios.
- Validate API requests, responses, data integrity, and business rules.
- Perform backend validation using SQL.
- Validate data across application and database layers.
- Analyze database structures and perform data-driven testing.
- Support testing of distributed and cloud-based applications.
4. Database & Data Testing
- Write complex SQL queries for data validation and test automation.
- Validate data across relational and cloud-based databases.
- Work with technologies including:
- Snowflake
- Oracle
- MySQL
- SQL Server
- Validate data transformations, calculations, and business rules.
- Investigate data discrepancies and assist development teams with root-cause analysis.
5. CI/CD & DevOps
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Work with Bamboo and/or GitHub Actions to execute automated test suites.
- Support continuous testing and automated quality gates.
- Collaborate with DevOps engineers to improve deployment and testing processes.
- Troubleshoot pipeline failures and automation execution issues.
- Follow Git and Bitbucket version-control best practices.
6. Risk Application Testing
- Test applications supporting financial risk functions.
- Understand and validate business requirements associated with risk systems.
- Support testing related to Credit Risk and Market Risk applications where applicable.
- Ensure test coverage addresses critical financial calculations, data flows, and business rules.
- Work with business and technology stakeholders to understand risk-related requirements.
7. Defect Management
- Identify, document, and track defects using tools such as Jira.
- Provide clear defect descriptions, reproduction steps, logs, and supporting evidence.
- Perform defect triage with developers and business teams.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring or complex defects.
- Retest fixes and ensure defects are properly closed.
8. Agile Collaboration
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including:
- Sprint Planning
- Daily Stand-ups
- Backlog Grooming
- Sprint Reviews
- Retrospectives
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, DevOps, and Project Managers.
- Provide testing estimates, progress updates, risks, and dependencies.
- Ensure testing activities remain aligned with sprint and release timelines.
9. Reporting & Stakeholder Communication
- Provide regular testing status updates to business and IT stakeholders.
- Communicate:

- Risks
- Blockers

- Release readiness
- Present testing results clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
