Senior UX Designer / UX Lead – Mobile Applications

We're seeking a Senior UX Designer / UX Lead to join a high-visibility mobile applications team supporting one of the nation's largest transit systems. This role will help shape the rider experience across bus and subway digital products, working alongside a team of 20 engineers and product managers. You'll own UX strategy end-to-end — from design systems and research partnership to executive-level presentations — for products used by millions of daily riders.

What You'll Do

• Develop and maintain design systems and style guides across digital platforms, including signage systems for NYCT, LIRR, and MNR
• Partner with UX Research to understand rider needs, behaviors, and pain points, and maintain an ongoing feedback loop
• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to align on user needs and business goals
• Partner with the Creative team on brand consistency
• Present design concepts and research findings to senior leadership
• Establish and document UX processes and best practices
• Implement user testing and other quality-control measures within an agile environment

Required Qualifications

• 15+ years of professional UX design experience
• 10+ years focused specifically on mobile application design
• Proven track record leading UX for complex, multi-stakeholder digital products
• Experience working within agile development environments
• Deep experience building and maintaining design systems
• Strong leadership skills and ability to champion user-centered design practices
• Proficiency in modern UX/visual design tools (Figma, Sketch, or equivalent)
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership
• Ability to manage complexity and ambiguity with strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in transportation, transit, or public-sector digital products
• Familiarity with accessibility guidelines (WCAG/508 compliance)

Additional Details

• 12-month contract engagement, 3 days onsite at 2 Broadway, NYC / 2 days remote
• Joins an established team of 20 engineers and product managers
• Candidates must be able to work onsite in Manhattan 3 days per week
