Summary

The Wisconsin Court System is seeking a skilled Technical Support Engineer Contractor to support and maintain its enterprise computer and network infrastructure, which includes more than 6,000 computing devices across the state. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, this role will provide hands-on technical support, hardware and software maintenance, troubleshooting, and field services for county courthouses and court system offices.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical troubleshooting skills, experience supporting computer hardware and software, knowledge of networking fundamentals, and a customer-focused approach to resolving technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for computer hardware, software, and related systems.

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot desktop computers, laptops, printers, scanners, peripherals, and audio/visual equipment.

  • Deliver technical customer support to court system employees and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues.

  • Perform onsite field service visits to county courthouses and offices throughout Wisconsin.

  • Support computer and network infrastructure, including local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues involving operating systems, peripherals, and network connectivity.

  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of courtroom technology, video conferencing systems, and other audio/visual equipment.

  • Support Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Remote Desktop Services as needed.

  • Respond promptly to system failures, technical emergencies, and other unplanned infrastructure incidents.

  • Follow established cybersecurity policies and procedures while implementing infrastructure hardware and resolving technical issues.

  • Maintain professional communication and coordinate with IT teams, network administrators, courthouse personnel, and other stakeholders.

  • Travel statewide as required to perform installations, upgrades, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate s degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Experience providing phone-based technical support.

  • Hands-on experience supporting and maintaining computer hardware and software.

  • Experience installing, configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting computers, printers, scanners, and other peripherals.

  • Knowledge of computer operating systems, hardware components, and networking fundamentals.

  • Strong technical troubleshooting, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to set up computers, peripherals, and audio/visual equipment.

  • Ability to travel throughout Wisconsin, including overnight stays, and meet the minimum requirements for operating a state vehicle.

  • Ability to perform physical field service duties, including occasionally lifting equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or training in audio/visual technology and video conferencing systems.

  • Experience or training in Windows Server administration.

  • Knowledge of Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services).

  • Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy.

  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN networking and network troubleshooting.

  • Experience providing onsite IT support, desktop support, or field service support.
