Role - API Technical Lead
Location: Hybrid – Baltimore, Maryland
Position Overview
The Applications Development Expert will provide design recommendations aligned with long-term IT strategy and develop enterprise-level applications and integration solutions. This role serves as a key technical expert across multiple disciplines, supporting business-critical systems, enterprise integrations, and healthcare interoperability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop enterprise-level applications, custom integrations, enhancements, interfaces, and features.
- Provide expertise in integrating applications across the organization.
- Plan, design, and develop complex and business-critical software solutions.
- Troubleshoot and assist with advanced application support issues.
- Develop programming standards, procedures, and reusable architectures.
- Apply modern software development methodologies and best practices.
- Research emerging technologies and evaluate their business applications.
- Serve as an internal consultant, mentor, and technical advocate.
Application Integration & Architecture Responsibilities
- Serve as the FHIR API Lead supporting healthcare interoperability initiatives and secure healthcare data exchange.
- Design and implement FHIR-based APIs and integration solutions using cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Develop and maintain Enterprise Integration Architecture guidelines and SOA-based integration standards.
- Collaborate with development teams on data mapping across formats including JSON, XML, HL7v2, FHIR, X12, databases, and flat files.
- Guide teams on API and web service integrations with focus on scalability, security, performance, and reliability.
- Design reusable integration components, frameworks, and enterprise standards.
- Ensure compliance with integration architecture standards and best practices.
- Align integration solutions with enterprise architecture strategies.
- Review and recommend improvements to enterprise integration approaches.
- Support governance activities related to integration and architectural decisions.
- Evaluate emerging interoperability technologies and standards.
- Participate in CI/CD pipeline automation using tools such as Git and Jenkins.
General Experience
- Minimum 7 years of IT and business/industry experience.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with FHIR standards, including resources, profiles, and implementation guides.
- 2+ years of experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 and CCDA.
- Experience with Object-Oriented Programming, CI/CD practices, and version control tools like Git.
- Experience with cloud-based integration technologies including AWS and enterprise service bus platforms such as MuleSoft.
- Experience with SOAP/RESTful web services and integration technologies including JMS/EMS.
- Familiarity with networking, API security best practices, and automation tools such as Jenkins.
Specialized Experience
- Minimum 3 years serving as a technical expert within an IT organization.
- Experience mentoring junior technical staff and contributing to high-impact IT decisions.
- Expertise supporting enterprise-wide application integration initiatives.
- Strong understanding of HL7/FHIR healthcare data exchange concepts.
- Deep knowledge of modern programming languages, object-oriented design, testing, and debugging.
- Experience working with healthcare systems and interoperability solutions.
- Strong problem-solving, multitasking, and communication skills.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor''s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Master''s Degree preferred.
