Summary

Leidos' Defense Sector is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support an Army Program focused on delivering advanced capabilities for operational decision-making in complex and dynamic environments. The Senior Systems Engineer leads the planning, design, integration, and verification of complex systems across the full engineering lifecycle. This role requires deep system-thinking expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to coordinate technical efforts across multidisciplinary teams. The engineer will define system architectures, manage requirements, guide technical decision-making, and ensure that all subsystems integrate seamlessly to meet program objectives. This position is ideal for someone who excels at solving complex problems, driving cross-functional alignment, and influencing technical strategy.

Locations include Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; Fort Belvoir, FL; Tampa, FL

This position is contingent upon program award, anticipated late March.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development, decomposition, and management of system-level requirements, architectures, and technical baselines.
  • Define system concepts, interfaces, and integration strategies for complex hardware and software systems.
  • Conduct trade studies, risk assessments, and technical analyses to support decision-making.
  • Oversee system integration activities, ensuring compatibility and performance across subsystems.
  • Lead verification and validation planning, including test strategy, requirements traceability, and acceptance criteria.
  • Facilitate technical reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and ensure readiness for program milestones.
  • Collaborate with engineering, program management, and customer stakeholders to ensure alignment with technical and program objectives.
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain system engineering documentation, including specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), and system engineering plans.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level systems engineers and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field with 8+ years of experience or a Master's degree with 6+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.
  • Experience in systems engineering or multidisciplinary engineering roles.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, architecture development, and verification/validation.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Cameo, JIRA, Confluence).
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering efforts and drive technical alignment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and interface documents.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in systems Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics, or other complex system development environments.
  • Knowledge of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methods and tools.
  • Familiarity with risk management, trade studies, and technical decision frameworks.
  • Experience leading design reviews and supporting major program milestones.
  • Understanding of configuration management and change control processes.
  • Ability to influence architecture decisions and long-term technical strategy.
