Job Description


We are seeking a Mechanical Technician II to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in CNC machining, CAM programming, and prototype fabrication and a proven ability to deliver high-quality prototype parts on schedule while collaborating with design partners.



Work Arrangement:


Onsite, 5 days per week in Sunnyvale, CA.



Summary:


ProtoMake is where new ideas start. Our teams provide everything needed to make and test the cutting-edge technologies that enable products at client: mechanical and electrical design, machining, printing, casting, molding, assembly, laser processing, and repair. We partner closely with product design and industrial design to apply our expertise to challenging problems and accelerated timelines. This role operates industrial-grade CNC machining equipment, programs parts with templated CAM workflows, communicates with customers, and ensures on-time delivery. Candidates with digital design backgrounds and an interest in making will succeed. Training on role specifics will be provided to the right person.


Responsibilities:



  • Operate industrial-grade CNC machining equipment to produce prototype components.

  • Program parts using templated CAM programs and adjust toolpaths for quality and efficiency.

  • Collaborate with product design and industrial design partners to translate requirements into manufacturable solutions.

  • Manage job queues, set priorities, and ensure on-time delivery against compressed timelines.

  • Perform setups, tool selection, workholding, and machine maintenance as assigned.

  • Inspect parts, verify tolerances, and document results to meet quality expectations.

  • Communicate status, risks, and design-for-manufacture feedback to customers and stakeholders.


Required Skills & Qualifications:



  • Hands-on experience with CNC mills or lathes and CAM programming.

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and use precision measurement tools.

  • Strong organization and communication skills with a focus on on-time delivery.

  • Experience level: 1-2 years minimum in machining or prototype fabrication. 3-5 years preferred.


Education:



  • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred. Equivalent shop experience accepted.


Preferred Skills:



  • Experience in rapid prototyping environments and complex geometries.

  • Background in digital design, CAD, or design-for-manufacture feedback.
