Summary

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Client: Construction & Engineering Company

Location: Minneapolis, MN 55401

Duration: Full-Time (Permanent)

Shift: Office-based (Minimum 4 days/week onsite, 1 remote day possible after training)

Job Summary
Perform mechanical, electrical, and field construction engineering activities for commercial construction projects.
Develop MEP estimates, analyze building systems, and support preconstruction, bidding, commissioning, and project execution.
Coordinate with project teams, subcontractors, and design teams to deliver quality construction projects.
Mentor junior engineers while driving continuous improvement and maintaining safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare mechanical and electrical estimates from design documents.
Review HVAC, plumbing, and electrical system options and recommend cost-effective solutions.
Develop MEP scopes of work for subcontractor bidding.
Coordinate bid analysis and support subcontractor selection.
Review construction drawings and identify constructability or quality issues.
Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
Review and approve shop drawings and submittals.
Support commissioning by developing pre-functional checklists, testing procedures, and verifying system performance.
Develop commissioning plans and ensure deficiencies are resolved before project closeout.
Assist with project scheduling, sequencing, and value engineering.
Mentor junior engineers and support continuous process improvements.
Promote workplace safety, quality, diversity, and collaboration.

Required Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
Strong knowledge of construction management principles.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of construction or engineering experience.
Experience with mechanical and electrical estimating.
Knowledge of commissioning processes.
Experience reviewing shop drawings and construction quality inspections.
Ability to perform system analysis and value engineering.
Experience mentoring junior engineers.
Familiarity with construction MEP software and estimating tools.

Experience
5-7 years of relevant experience required.
No management experience required.
Bachelor's degree required.
Must be willing to travel occasionally.
