Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Fiber Technician with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on fiber optic experience. The ideal candidate will be responsible for all aspects of fiber installation, termination, testing, and splicing, with a strong focus on single-mode fiber systems. This role requires technical proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to complete work accurately and efficiently in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Key Responsibilities
Install, terminate, test, and splice single-mode fiber optic cabling
Perform fiber optic installations in telecommunications rooms, data centers, and outside plant (OSP) environments
Ensure all fiber work meets company standards, customer specifications, and industry best practices
Troubleshoot and resolve fiber connectivity and performance issues
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times
Required Technical Skills & Experience
Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following:
Fiber Cabling & Termination
Installation and termination of the following single-mode fiber connectors:
LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP
Termination of:
Simplex and duplex fiber jumper cords
Outside Plant (OSP) single-mode fiber (single strand, no multimode), including manufacturers such as Corning and CommScope
Outdoor single-mode fiber cables
Breakout and termination of OSP fiber cables
Understanding of and/or experience working with splice matrices
Testing & Troubleshooting
Experience testing fiber optic cabling using Fluke fiber testing equipment
Ability to interpret test results and identify faults or performance issues
Additional Skills
Basic copper termination skills
Ability to read and interpret fiber diagrams, drawings, and documentation
Strong attention to detail and workmanship quality
Documentation & Administrative Requirements
Accurately and consistently complete all required IES paperwork, including but not limited to:
Timesheets
Material transfers
Work orders
Change orders
Job Blog updates
Tool transfers
Any additional reports or documentation as required
Ensure all paperwork is completed accurately and on time
Experience & Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on fiber optic experience
Experience working with single-mode fiber in commercial, enterprise, or telecom environments
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Reliable transportation and willingness to work in varied field environments (indoor and outdoor)
Preferred (Not Required)
Experience in data centers or large-scale fiber deployments
Industry certifications (FOA, ETA, BICSI, or similar)
Prior experience with OSP splicing and testing
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Test using an OTDR, Fluke DTX 1800
Troubleshoot using an OTDR to identify and correct problems end to end, and Network wide
Provide all documentation required
Label in accordance with IES Standards
Splicing: Must have the ability to:
Perform mechanical splicing with all types of fiber cable
Perform fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable
Perform building entrance splices, maintenance space, and direct buried splices

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
