Job Summary:
  1. Serves as an instrumentation metrologist, whose primary duties include the calibration and repair of a wide and diverse range of both physical and electronic measurement and test equipment, as well as special electronic, physical and mechanical test equipment.
  2. This instrumentation ranges from state-of-the-art to basic instrumentation.
  3. The incumbent must investigate various methods to determine the best solution to provide accurate calibration and economical repair to these devices and systems.
  4. This also involves defining the laboratory standards required to provide measurement ratios to meet both regulatory and customer requirements, independently developing required work task procedures and instructions, implements task changes consistent with QA procedural controls for nuclear work, if they do not exist.
  5. On nuclear instrumentation prepares documentation package that include new calibration procedure, master report form, accuracies statements and recommended calibration interval information, and all required measurement ratio calculations.
  6. Independently troubleshoots malfunctioning instruments and systems, isolates the problem to the discrete component level, and executes all required connective action measures, as incumbent must be fully aware of the principles and theories of electrical and mechanical technology and the physical sciences. Ensures that work performed for the nuclear power industry is conducted in accordance with applicable quality assurance and regulatory agency requirements.
  7. Provides consultation with customers regarding proper instrumentation selection, interpretation of results and data, as well has training sessions on the proper use of the instrumentation.
  8. Provides technical assistance and on the job training to technician level employees, and customer personal as maybe required.


Supervision Received:

Works under the technical direction of the Production Supervisor. Routine assignments are carried out independently within established guidelines, instructions and procedures. Assistance is available from the Production Supervisor for unusual situations. Incumbent manages the work to achieve organizational objectives.

Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific):
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the field of Metrology and technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform typical instrumentation repair and calibration.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply QA procedures, TQM principles, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate laboratory standards to conduct calibration measurements.

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard):
Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with four years experience in the calibration and repair of instrumentation or three years satisfactory experience performing calibration and repair work at Technician Level.
  • Must be willing and medically qualified to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by TVA procedures during peak periods.
