Project Engineer - Food Manufacturing (Direct Hire)

We are seeking a Project Engineer to support capital projects, equipment installations, and process improvements within a high-volume food manufacturing facility. This direct hire opportunity is ideal for a hands-on engineering professional who thrives on the plant floor, solving technical challenges and improving production systems from design through commissioning.
In this role, you will lead engineering support for utility systems, manufacturing equipment, and facility modifications while ensuring safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support CAPEX projects from scope development through installation and startup.
- Lead equipment testing, commissioning, and performance validation.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and PLC-controlled systems on the production floor.
- Collaborate with production, quality, safety, and external contractors.
- Support design reviews, FAT/SAT activities, and equipment handover processes.
- Develop SOPs, preventive maintenance plans, and equipment documentation.
- Analyze production workflows and KPIs to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Assist with compliance activities, including CAPA, change control, and deviation support.
- Manage project documentation, cost tracking, and reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and automation troubleshooting skills
- PLC troubleshooting experience required
- Knowledge of GMP, OSHA, and food safety standards
- Experience with plant utilities (HVAC, steam, compressed air, boilers, cooling systems)
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Compensation: $86,660-$105,000 base salary + 12.5% annual bonus potential
Travel: Some in-state travel between facilities required (Ayer, Devens, Brockton, MA)
