Senior Cloud Architect

About the Role:

The DC agency is seeking a Senior Cloud Architect to support the continued expansion and modernization of a large-scale, secure multi-cloud environment. This role will work closely with OCTO leadership, security teams, DC-NET, and partner agencies to design, migrate, and optimize cloud solutions that support mission-critical government systems. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on expertise across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, strong architectural design skills, and experience operating in regulated or government environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and architect scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud solutions across hybrid and multi-cloud environments
• Support system migrations and modernization initiatives for OCTO and partner agencies
• Collaborate with OCTO Security and DC-NET teams on firewall changes, network routing, and compliance requirements
• Develop and document cloud architecture diagrams and complex system integrations
• Apply DevOps best practices, including CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments
• Lead technical decision-making for large, complex cloud implementations
• Serve as a subject matter expert, translating business requirements into technical architectures
• Ensure cloud solutions are monitorable, sustainable, and optimized for cost and performance

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 10+ years of experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• 10+ years designing and supporting hybrid and multi-cloud architectures
• Proven experience with cloud migrations and modernization projects
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (VPCs, subnets, DNS, load balancing, firewalls)
• Experience with security and compliance frameworks (Zero Trust, IAM, encryption, FedRAMP or similar)
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, ARM templates)
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash)
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Strong ability to produce and present complex technical documentation

Preferred Certifications:

• AWS Solutions Architect – Professional
• Azure Solutions Architect Expert
• Google Professional Cloud Architect
