Summary

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is searching for a Principal Platform Engineer located in Dayton, Ohio.

Day-to-day responsibilities include deploying, maintaining, and improving cloud-native and containerized platform services built on Kubernetes and Docker. The Platform Engineer will build and manage CI/CD pipelines, create deployment configurations, and maintain platform reliability across databases, search tools, and containerized applications. They will troubleshoot issues across applications, containers, and cluster infrastructure while collaborating with software, UX, QA, and product teams to support development workflows. The role includes refining platform architecture, implementing infrastructure-as-code practices, and advancing modernization initiatives such as microservices and secure delivery patterns. The Platform Engineer will participate in Agile ceremonies, contribute to design and code reviews, and document platform decisions to support team growth. This position requires hands-on ownership of platform operations and continuous improvement of engineering practices.

How you will contribute to our National Security and Defense mission:

As a Platform Engineer with MTSI, you will help design, implement, and sustain secure, scalable platform capabilities that support mission-focused software delivery across cloud-native and on-premise environments. You will apply modern engineering practices to build containerized and distributed systems, ensuring reliable operations through strong Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD expertise. Your contributions will ensure that development teams have stable, secure, and high-performing environments by deploying and integrating databases, search tools, and platform services such as PostgreSQL, Neo4j, OpenSearch, and Spark. You will take a hands-on role in improving platform automation, evolving microservice architectures, and strengthening infrastructure-as-code patterns to support mission requirements. You will work collaboratively with software, UX, QA, and product teams, translating mission needs into maintainable and repeatable platform solutions. Additionally, you will help drive continuous improvement efforts through Agile execution, technical demos, code reviews, and mentoring engineers to uplift engineering practice across the organization. This position is hybrid, with a need to work onsite or remotely depending on tasking and mission requirements.

Responsibilities:

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain IT related processes for planning, execution, and reporting to include: Azure Kubernetes Service deployments, Helm deployments, Istio integrations, Service Gateways, ArgoCD automated deployments, Docker Image building, CI/CD Pipeline deployments, Requirements management, Architecture, Integration, Verification and Validation, Transition, Configuration Management, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Cloud Technology Services, and Software Development Lifecyle.
  • Build and manage CI/CD pipelines, deployment configurations, and automated workflows to ensure reliable and repeatable software delivery.
  • Integrate and sustain platform components including PostgreSQL, Neo4j, OpenSearch, pgAdmin, and Spark, ensuring smooth data and application operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across cluster infrastructure, containers, databases, and application layers while maintaining high operational reliability.
  • Support architectural modernization efforts, including microservice adoption, infrastructure as code, and cloud native design patterns.
  • Contribute to platform documentation, architecture diagrams, best practice guides, and engineering standards that uplift team capabilities.
  • Participate in Agile team ceremonies, technical refinement, demos, code reviews, and mentoring to align platform operations with development objectives.

Qualifications Required:
  • 8+ years combined experience working as a Network, Cloud, Security, Software, DevOps, DevSecOps, SRE, or Infrastructure Engineer.
  • Experience developing design and standards documentation.
  • Experience with technologies including Kubernetes, Kustomize, Helm, Docker, Istio, ArgoCD, GitLab, GitLab CI, Nexus, Jira, Confluence, Coder, Terraform, Ansible or equivalent/related technologies.
  • Expertise with common modern programming languages (Python, Go, C++, Java, etc.).
  • Experience with Azure cloud services, including networking, storage, and compute.
  • Proficiency with implementing and practicing GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps.
  • Ability to maintain lifecycle of Kubernetes clusters, infrastructure, and tools.
  • Proficiency with utilizing enterprise CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficient in Linux and Windows Operating Systems.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Clearance Requirements:
  • Must have minimum a Secret DoD Security Clearance.
