Summary

HGA is seeking a Process Engineer to support projects in the petrochemical, refinery, and midstream sectors. This is a great opportunity for an engineer with 2-5 years of experience to grow technical skills while working alongside senior engineers on meaningful, large-scale projects.

Position Overview

The Process Engineer designs chemical processes and systems for manufacturing and production facilities within the process industries. This role focuses on creating and refining process designs, including simulations, equipment specifications, and flow diagrams, to support new projects and improve existing systems. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, the Process Engineer emphasizes technical analysis, process modeling, and collaboration with project teams to deliver efficient, safe, and scalable designs.

The Process Engineer should be able to perform hydraulics calculations efficiently (pumps, control valves, restriction orifices, etc.) and be familiar with standards such as API 520, API 521, API 2000, ASME Section VIII, and ASME Section I.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform basic and detailed design engineering for assigned projects in petrochemical, refinery, and midstream facilities, in accordance with client requirements and specifications
  • Perform process simulations and design calculations, and size and select equipment
  • Review client documents, specifications, and datasheets, and verify FEED design and calculations
  • Prepare process engineering deliverables, including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, heat and material balances, process line sizing and hydraulic calculations, and instrument datasheets (including control valves and relief valves)
  • Perform pressure relief system calculations and design, and evaluate existing relief valve piping configurations for conformity to applicable codes and regulations
  • Evaluate vendor quotes and develop equipment bid tabs
  • Help develop I/O lists, line lists, cause and effects, control philosophies, and shutdown philosophies, and provide engineering input to other disciplines
  • Assist in developing start-up and operating manuals, attend and support Process Hazard Analysis meetings, and attend plant start-ups when requested
  • Interface with other disciplines, vendors, and clients
  • Maintain a positive, collaborative working relationship with the engineering team to support productivity and efficiency

Required Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Chemical Engineering with relevant experience
  • 2-5 years of experience on projects in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and/or chemical industries
  • Experience developing and/or working with P&IDs, PFDs, equipment data sheets, instrument data sheets, piping ISOs, and pipe specs
  • Experience working within a chemical or oil processing facility and/or experience with mitigation efforts related to relief device revalidation
  • Experience with process simulation software (Aspen, HYSYS, Aspen Flare System Analyzer, CHEMCAD, ProMax, PRO/II, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and proficiency with MS Office
