Job Description
The Group focuses on driving analytics to take advantage of vast and rapidly expanding biological datasets to address national security needs. Our efforts include developing software architectures and systems, bioinformatics tools, and AI algorithms to further the nation’s efforts in chemical and biological defense, biosecurity, public and global health and warfighter performance. Our multidisciplinary team works on integrating data from molecular/genomic levels to physiological system scales, while ensuring systems and data remain secure and private.
Must Have Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline. In lieu of a master’s degree, a bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience.
- 5+ years of full-stack software development experience, including:
- Strong proficiency in modern Python (e.g. Flask, SQLAlchemy, boto3).
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/React.
- Experience designing and developing cloud-based distributed systems with microservices.
- Schema definitions and data modeling for SQL databases.
- AWS development experience, including S3, IAM, RDS, EC2, Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, ECR, and EKS.
- Version control using Git/GitHub/GitLab.
- Strong software documentation practices.
- Proven ability to identify strategic implications of technical decisions and proactively advise the development team on potential downstream impacts.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in small to medium-sized teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have:
- SQL database performance tuning and query optimization.
- Defining, debugging, and troubleshooting ETL / ELT pipelines and processes.
- Defining and managing workflows in k8s-based orchestration engines (i.e. Kubeflow).
- Background in bioinformatics, genomics, or related life sciences data.

Clearance
Interim clearance is sufficient to start with. An active clearance is HIGHLY preferred.
Location
Candidates should expect to be onsite at least 4 days a week for the first year. Afterwards, flexibility for a hybrid schedule could be discussed. Final schedule TBD by the hiring manager.
Interview Process
- 1st round will be Zoom.
- If the candidate is local, 2nd round interview will be onsite which is preferred.
- If the candidate is not local, a Zoom interview will take place.
