Position Description:
We are seeking a Senior Data Warehouse Architect to lead the design, development, and implementation of a scalable Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) within a government/public sector financial environment. This is a highly technical, strategic role with strong functional alignment to finance and accounting systems.
The position will play a critical role in establishing enterprise data architecture standards, enabling accurate financial reporting, and resolving complex cross-system reconciliation challenges between ERP and tax systems (e.g., Tyler/Munis and CGI/IFMS). The architect will directly influence long-term data strategy while delivering immediate, high-impact solutions for financial data integrity and audit readiness.
This role is best suited for an experienced professional with deep expertise in data warehousing, financial systems, and reconciliation methodologies, capable of operating both at an architectural and hands-on implementation level.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Define and implement enterprise-wide data warehouse architecture using Microsoft SQL Server, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Design and enforce dimensional data models (star schema), including fact tables, dimensions, and Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCDs).
- Establish and maintain clear separation between staging, integrated EDW, and datamart layers.
- Lead the design and development of a Reconciliation Datamart to resolve financial discrepancies across systems (e.g., 5M 5M 7M variance).
- Develop robust reconciliation logic across disparate systems lacking natural keys by leveraging attributes such as transaction dates, batch totals, amounts, and account metadata.
- Implement auditable and defensible reconciliation processes aligned with financial and compliance requirements.
- Guide data ingestion strategies using SSIS and MuleSoft, ensuring efficient extraction of only relevant data from source systems.
- Evaluate and integrate data from Tyler/Munis and CGI/IFMS, including schema identification, field mapping, and transformation logic.
- Collaborate with finance stakeholders to validate reconciliation rules, manage exceptions, and document methodologies for audit purposes.
- Lead technical discussions and discovery sessions with cross-functional teams, including external system owners and stakeholders.
- Provide architectural guidance on integration patterns, including APIs (Tyler API Toolkit) and middleware solutions.
- Assess the need for an Operational Data Store (ODS) based on evolving near-real-time reporting requirements.
- Support development of Power BI reporting solutions for finance, audit, and executive stakeholders.
- Drive best practices in data governance, data quality, and performance optimization.
- Contribute to roadmap planning, resource evaluation, and technical decision-making.
Required Skills:
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (database design, performance tuning, T-SQL).
- Strong hands-on experience with SSIS (ETL development) and SSAS (semantic/OLAP modeling).
- Proficiency in Power BI for enterprise reporting and data visualization.
- Deep understanding of dimensional modeling methodologies (Kimball and/or Inmon).
- Proven ability to design and implement enterprise data warehouses and datamarts.
- Experience integrating data using MuleSoft or similar integration platforms.
- Strong experience working with APIs and data integration frameworks (e.g., Tyler API Toolkit).
- Expertise in data reconciliation techniques across systems without natural keys.
- Strong domain knowledge in financial systems, ERP/GL platforms, and tax/accounting systems.
- Experience with stale and county tax reconciliation processes.
- Familiarity with audit requirements and financial compliance standards.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field (Master s preferred).
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Warehouse Architect, Data Architect, or similar senior-level role.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise data warehouse solutions in financial environments.
- Proven experience with financial data reconciliation, particularly across ERP, GL, or tax systems.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft data stack (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, Power BI).
- Experience working with government, county, or public sector financial systems (strongly preferred).
- Experience with Tyler/Munis and CGI/IFMS systems (highly preferred).
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Data Management certifications, or equivalent are a plus.
