We are seeking an experienced Cost Allocation Data Engineer to design and develop data models and allocation frameworks that support cloud cost attribution, showback, and chargeback capabilities. The ideal candidate will have strong data engineering expertise, advanced SQL skills, dimensional modeling experience, and a solid understanding of FinOps methodologies and financial accounting concepts. This role requires expertise in developing complex allocation rules, amortization models, shared cost distribution, and financial reporting models.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop allocation rule engines supporting tag-based, account-based, and custom cost mappings.
  • Build amortization models for upfront cloud commitments, including 1-year and 3-year reservations.
  • Implement shared cost distribution models using proportional, equal-split, and fixed-coefficient methodologies.
  • Develop untagged cost attribution logic using account ownership and business-driven allocation rules.
  • Build budget-versus-actual variance analysis and financial reporting models.
  • Design forecasting input models using historical cloud cost trends.
  • Ensure data models align with accounting periods, accruals, and financial matching principles.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data transformation pipelines and reporting models.

Required Technical Skills:
  • 5-7 years of experience in Data Engineering.
  • Expert-level SQL and strong dimensional data modeling skills.
  • Hands-on experience building cost allocation, showback, or chargeback systems.
  • Strong understanding of FinOps principles and cloud cost allocation methodologies.
  • Experience with dbt, LookML, or similar data modeling and transformation tools.
  • Understanding of financial accounting concepts, including amortization and accruals.
  • Experience with financial data modeling, cost attribution, and allocation logic.
