Role Overview

NMC Managed Services is seeking an experienced Epic Disaster Recovery (DR) SME / Architect to support a large healthcare organization in assessing, strengthening, and validating its disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities for the Epic environment.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Epic environments and healthcare DR, with the ability to understand the interdependencies between Epic applications, databases, infrastructure, storage, virtualization, networking, backup/replication, interfaces, and clinical systems.

This is a 100% remote role and requires a senior-level consultant who can work independently with client application, infrastructure, security, and clinical/operational teams.

1. Epic DR / Business Continuity Experience

• Proven experience designing, assessing, or implementing Disaster Recovery for Epic environments.
• Strong understanding of Epic production environments, recovery requirements, downtime procedures and application dependencies.
• Experience working with healthcare organizations using Epic.

2. Epic Technical Architecture & Dependencies

• Strong understanding of Epic infrastructure and the technologies supporting Epic.
• Experience identifying dependencies across Epic applications, databases, interfaces, compute, storage, virtualization, networking and identity/access.
• Ability to translate Epic application requirements into infrastructure and recovery requirements.

3. DR Architecture, RTO/RPO & Recovery Planning

• Experience developing or evaluating DR architectures, recovery strategies, RTO/RPO requirements and recovery sequencing.
• Experience with backup, replication, recovery and failover/failback technologies.
• Ability to identify DR gaps and develop practical remediation recommendations.

4. DR Testing & Validation

• Experience planning and executing DR tests, tabletop exercises, technical recovery exercises and/or full failover/failback testing.
• Ability to develop recovery procedures, test scenarios and success criteria.
• Experience documenting findings and driving remediation activities.

5. Healthcare / Clinical IT Experience

• 7+ years of IT infrastructure, application or DR experience, with meaningful experience in healthcare IT.
• Experience working with healthcare application, infrastructure, security and clinical/operational teams.
• Familiarity with healthcare regulatory and security considerations, including HIPAA and cyber-recovery requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess the client's existing Epic DR and business continuity strategy.
• Review Epic architecture and identify critical application and infrastructure dependencies.
• Evaluate current RTO/RPO, backup, replication and recovery capabilities.
• Identify gaps and risks within the current Epic DR strategy.
• Develop recommendations and a prioritized Epic DR remediation roadmap.
• Review recovery procedures and recovery sequencing across Epic and dependent systems.
• Participate in or lead Epic DR testing and validation exercises.
• Work with infrastructure teams covering compute, storage, virtualization, networking, backup and security.
• Collaborate with Epic/application teams to validate application recovery requirements.
• Document current-state architecture, findings, recommendations and recovery procedures.
• Provide senior-level guidance to client leadership and technical teams.

Preferred Experience

• Epic implementation, optimization or technical infrastructure experience.
• Epic-related experience with Chronicles / database technologies, Hyperspace and interfaces.
• Experience with Epic environments hosted on VMware, Nutanix, physical infrastructure or cloud platforms.
• Cyber-recovery / ransomware recovery experience in healthcare.
• Experience with large hospital systems, health systems or multi-site healthcare environments.
• Epic certifications or Epic technical training are a plus.
• Experience working directly with Epic representatives is a plus.
