Job Description

We're looking for a motivated Junior Data Engineer to join our data team and play a key hands-on role in building, maintaining, and evolving our enterprise data platform. You'll help power analytics and reporting across the entire organization-including sales, HR, IT, operations, and executive data-by creating reliable pipelines, supporting our Kimball-style dimensional data warehouse, and contributing to a major cloud migration project. You'll work directly with Azure Data Factory, PostgreSQL (Azure Flexible Server), Power BI + Tabular Editor, Alation Cloud, and Jira while helping evaluate and migrate to Snowflake (or another modern platform). Expect real ownership of meaningful work, close mentorship, and rapid growth as we modernize our data infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, schedule, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory to ingest, transform, and load data from various source systems into our data warehouse.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, views, and stored procedures in PostgreSQL (Azure Flexible Server), following Kimball dimensional modeling principles (fact/dimension tables, star/snowflake schemas).
  • Support and enhance Power BI semantic models using Tabular Editor to ensure performant, reusable data models for reporting and analytics.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across sales, HR, IT, operations, and executive teams to understand data requirements and deliver trusted datasets.
  • Utilize Jira heavily to manage tasks, track issues, participate in Agile ceremonies (sprints, stand-ups, retrospectives), and ensure transparent delivery of data engineering work.
  • Contribute to data governance and metadata management initiatives with Alation Cloud, including cataloging assets, documenting lineage, enforcing standards, and improving data discoverability and quality.
  • Participate in the evaluation and execution of our data warehouse migration (PostgreSQL Snowflake or another modern platform), including schema conversion, pipeline refactoring, and validation.
  • Monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot data issues, and proactively improve reliability, performance, and scalability.
  • Document data processes, models, and metadata to support team knowledge sharing and compliance.
  • Partner with senior engineers and analysts on continuous improvement of our data platform.

Specific Knowledge & Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering.
  • 1+ years of experience in Data Engineering, ETL development, or Data Warehousing.
  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL experience is a big plus).
  • Familiarity with Azure Data Factory or Microsoft Fabric (or similar ETL/ELT tools like SSIS, Talend, or Fivetran).
  • Basic understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling (Kimball methodology preferred).
  • Experience with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses is a plus.
  • Exposure to Power BI and/or Tabular Editor is highly valued.
  • Interest in data governance, metadata management, and tools like Alation Cloud.
  • Basic scripting knowledge (Python, PowerShell, or similar) is a plus.
  • Exposure to data quality, lineage, or catalog tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn new technologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills-able to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Target Base Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
