Database Engineer

Location: Seattle, Washington (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Contract

Duration: 12 months

Role Overview

We are seeking a Database Engineer to perform tasks that ensure platform stability and mitigate overall platform risk. This role requires the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems quickly, communicate proposed solutions, and serve as a liaison between technology and business teams. The position includes coaching junior team members and has the potential to become a permanent role for candidates who do not require sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in estimating work necessary to realize a story or requirement through the delivery lifecycle.
  • Utilize multiple architectural components in the design and development of client requirements.
  • Collaborate with development teams to understand data requirements and ensure the data architecture is feasible and implemented accurately.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, data quality controls, dependency, and workload management.
  • Document and communicate required information for deployment, maintenance, support, and business functionality.
  • Adhere to the team's delivery and release process for code deployment.
  • Identify and address gaps in data management standards.
  • Lead concept and experimentation testing to validate and improve analytical solutions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and internal controls.
  • Mentor junior Data Engineers and coach the team on CI/CD practices and automating the tool stack.
Required Qualifications

Technical Skills:
  • Strong Oracle database skills, including Oracle Exadata.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, specifically Cassandra, CQL, and DataStax tools.
  • Proficiency in C Shell Scripting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and tune SQL performance issues.
  • Firm understanding of core Cassandra concepts.
  • Experience with Oracle GoldenGate replication technology.
  • Knowledge of performance tuning SQL.


Experience:
  • Experience with development models such as Agile and SDLC.
  • Experience in data management best practices.
  • Some project management skills are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A willingness to learn both new and aging technologies as needed.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in an Agile team.
  • Familiarity with NDM (ConnectDirect) and OpenSSH.
  • Experience with Autosys and IBM's DataStage is desired.
Work Environment

This position requires a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of three days per week on-site starting from day one. This role is a potential contract-to-hire opportunity.
