Summary

Meyer Utility Structures, an Arcosa subsidiary, is searching for a Lead Engineer to work in our Memphis, TN, Dallas, TX or Ft. Worth, TX office. The Lead Engineer is responsible for the analysis and design of tubular steel transmission structures and associated products to be in conformance with project design criteria, applicable industry standards and Meyer Utility Structures policies, procedures and design standards. The Lead Engineer will coordinate and communicate technical information and requirements with internal and external customers and will prepare complete and accurate designs, details, documentation and reports for assigned projects, assist in resolving technical issues on drawings, fabrication and construction as needed. The successful leader will assist the Engineering Manager in the development of the team's Design Engineers and further support the Engineering Manager by completing tasks that are the responsibility of the Engineering team.

What You'll Do:
  • Review customer specifications and project design criteria
  • Use software design tools, engineering documents and structural engineering fundamentals to analyze and design structures and appurtenances to meet customer specifications and project design criteria
  • Prepare design calculations and cost estimating information
  • Review drawings for design conformance and customer revisions; coordinating customer design revisions with project management, modeling and estimating team members
  • Initiate conversations with customers and assist drafting team members to resolve problems of ambiguity during drafting of our shop drawings
  • Report on the impact of design changes to the Project Manager
  • Function as a project leader and perform design reviews on highly complex project
  • Support projects as needed as a subject matter expert to develop innovative solutions
  • Assist in the training of new and experienced engineers with regard to all technical aspects of the product such as design and analysis methods, materials, welding and technical marketing information
  • Assist in developing new and/or upgrade existing technical documentation and standards such as the engineering design manual, material standards, fabrication tolerances and engineering references
  • Prepare information and perform internal, customer or conference technical presentations
  • Check the work of the team's Design Engineers
  • Provide disposition on category 2 deviations and research and advise on category 3 and 5 deviations
  • Take the lead on "typical" field issues
  • Review all engineering cards for accuracy
  • Ensure job logs assigned to the team are addressed in a timely manner
  • Review all engineering post processing files
  • Assist the design engineers with DMCN reviews
  • Mentor and develop the team's engineers
  • Co-lead weekly engineering team meetings
  • Provide engineering scheduling support
  • Perform Job Log Responsiveness Reviews
  • Co-Lead monthly account meetings to review DMCNs, RFIs, Job Logs, etc.
  • Attend a minimum of (2) trips to the Plant, Engineering Conference, Customer visit, etc.
  • Assist in the hiring and training process of new engineers
  • Participate in Customer Specification Review Process
  • Check the fabrication drawing review (ER) conducted by new engineers
  • Seal calculations and drawings

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with background in Structural Design or equivalent work experience that provides knowledge and exposure to fundamental theories, principles and concepts
  • Minimum 4 years of design experience
  • P.E. license
  • Steel Design coursework required
  • Experience with Structural Design Software
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to act with initiative when problems arise
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers and plant personnel
  • Leadership skills
  • Meyer Specific Requirements (Internal Candidates Only)
    • Proficient in the design and optimization of all structure types
    • Comprehensive understanding of Meyer fabrication practices and tolerances
    • Complete understanding of project design loading and load cases
    • Consistently produce complete and accurate engineering packages
    • Complete understanding of customer design requirements shown on specifications and drawings
    • Complete understanding of project scheduling, critical milestones from order definition to shipment.
