Description:

Career Level 3: Technical Designer

Overview:
  • Applies core drafting principles and design concepts to support real-time solutions for product and process issues during fabrication. Creates drafted parts and product structures to address operational and quality concerns.
  • Performs model definition updates based on engineering input, transforming conceptual ideas and feedback into precise part geometry and assembly definitions.
  • Collaborates across cross-functional teams throughout the product life cycle to support design improvements and updates.
  • Maintains high technical standards with a clear intent to grow within the technical designer career path.
  • Learns and adapts in a fast-paced, real-time, agile environment with a positive attitude. Work may occur on first, second, or third shift, including alternate work weeks, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Position Responsibilities
  • Provides materials and process support to commercial aerospace programs and systems design teams throughout the full product life cycle, from initial design to production and fleet support.
  • Reviews electrical component materials, process specifications, and engineering documents used for design control, certification, and hardware production.
  • Identifies and evaluates impacts of non-conformances in electrical components and recommends corrective or preventive actions.
  • Conducts engineering lab work and failure analysis to determine root cause and corrective actions for failed electrical components.
  • Evaluates emerging technologies for potential application in future products to support competitive advantage.
  • Leads or collaborates with engineering teams, including Design, Stress, Quality, Manufacturing, and Suppliers, to solve materials and process challenges throughout the product life cycle.
  • Develops requirements, specifications, and documentation for tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes supporting full life cycle product enhancement.
Basic Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a related discipline and typical experience in drafting (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Foundational knowledge of computer-aided design and design product structures (details, parts, assemblies, installations).
  • Understanding of machining processes for metallic parts.
  • 3+ years of aerospace design experience, including detail and assembly part work.
  • Experience with CATIA or equivalent solid modeling software.
  • Experience using Integrated Visualization Tools (IVT).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong problem-solving and investigative abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Project management experience involving coordination with multiple organizations at various project stages.
  • Previous liaison engineering experience.

  • Education/Experience: AA degree in a related field and typically 3+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
