This is a highly technical position responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of the County''s next-generation data architecture. The data modeler will be integral in building and optimizing robust data pipelines, integrating disparate operational systems, and ensuring the creation of efficient, scalable, and cloud-based data models (logical, physical, and conceptual). The individual will work closely with Data Analysts, and IT professionals to establish a high-quality data foundation that supports critical operational reporting, compliance requirements, and advanced Business Intelligence functions using tools like Power BI, paving the way for future AI-driven insights.
Job components include the following:
- Data Lakehouse Development & Engineering: Designing, developing, and maintaining high-volume, scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT) for the ingestion and integration of data from various source systems in the cloud-based (Azure) Enterpise Data Lakehouse environment.
- Data Modeling & Architecture: Leading the development, documentation, and implementation of dimensional, relational, tabular, and conceptual data models to support operational, analytical, and Generative AI requirements.
- Cloud Data Management (Azure Focus): Administering, optimizing, and managing cloud data services, specifically utilizing the Microsft Azure ecosystem (including Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, and Data Lakehouse technologies).
- Data Quality & Migration: Overseeing data migration efforts from legacy systems to the cloud, executing necessary data cleansing, normalization, and tranformation processes to guarantee high-quality, reliable, and accessible data assets.
- Data Governance & Security: Monitoring, implementing, and enforcing data security neasures and robust data governance practices to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and compliance across all data systems.
- Business Intelligence & AI Readiness: Collaborating directly with Business Analysts and the BI team to structure and prepare data for operational reporting, compliance, and advanced analytics, specifically supporting Power BI development and preparing data for AI/ML models.
Preferred Experience:
- Data engineering principles, including ETL/ELT pipeline development, data integration, and practical implementation of cloud-based data solutions.
- Hands-on, production-level experience with the Microsoft Azure data stack, including services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Storage.
- Experience in designing and implementing various data models (e.g., Dimensional, Relational, and Tabular Modeling), optimized for performance and BI tool utilization.
- Data cleansing, normalization, and transformation techniques, and experience in data migtation from legacy systems.
- Understanding data security best practices and governance policies to maintain compliance and integrity.
- Experience utilizing Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines to automate data deployment and integration processes.
- Familiarity with preparing data for advanced analytics, Machine Learning (ML), and Generative AI applications.
- Experience with an Agile/DevOps environment.
