DescriptionYour role at GEI. Essential Responsibilities & Duties - Lead the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of high-performance computational engines and advanced user interfaces for desktop and web-based services and applications, integrating scientific visualization techniques to support complex engineering workflows.
- Architect, develop, and maintain scalable client-server systems and enterprise software applications, ensuring high availability, performance optimization, and secure data management.
- Provide senior-level technical support and troubleshooting for production systems, including real-time forecasting platforms and mission-critical water management applications.
- Design, develop, and optimize distributed and cloud-based computing solutions (e.g., AWS EC2 environments), including parallel processing implementations for large-scale numerical modeling and Monte Carlo simulations.
- Lead and contribute throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, system architecture, design, implementation, testing, documentation, deployment, and long-term maintenance.
- Apply DevOps methodologies, including automated CI/CD pipelines (e.g., TeamCity, GitHub Actions), static code analysis (e.g., SonarQube), dependency management, and artifact repository best practices to ensure secure and high-quality software delivery.
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership in architecture decisions, code reviews, performance optimization, and best practices for Object-Oriented design.
- Participate in Agile and Kanban environments, collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, reliable, and maintainable software systems.
Minimum Qualifications - BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, supplemented by significant relevant professional experience.
- Minimum of 10+ years of Object-Oriented software development experience, with strong emphasis on Java.
- Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining enterprise-level desktop and/or web-based applications.
- Strong expertise in client-server architectures, relational database systems (e.g., Oracle), and distributed systems design.
- Experience developing and maintaining cloud-based applications and scalable computing environments (e.g., AWS).
- Demonstrated understanding of Agile and DevOps practices, including CI/CD tools and automated testing methodologies.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience developing scientific or engineering modeling software, particularly hydrologic, hydraulic, or geospatial systems.
- Knowledge of higher mathematics, statistics, numerical methods, and performance optimization techniques for computational modeling.
- Experience with additional programming languages and technologies such as Python, Jython, .NET, PL/SQL, C#, C++, Fortran, or Go.
- Experience with full-stack development, including modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) and backend services.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience working with enterprise DevOps ecosystems and collaborative tools, including GitHub, JIRA, Confluence, and related platforms.
