About the Role
We are seeking a Digital Communications Space Systems Engineer to support the modeling, simulation, and analysis of advanced space and satellite communication systems. This role involves evaluating system performance, conducting trade studies, and applying digital communications expertise to optimize complex space architectures and mission operations.
Key Responsibilities Space Communications Design & Analysis
- Model, design, and analyze end-to-end communication systems, including waveforms, terminal networks, and ground-to-space communication architectures.
- Apply Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and digital communications principles, including modulation schemes, Forward Error Correction (FEC), and industry-standard waveform technologies.
- Perform link budget analysis and communication system performance assessments under various operating conditions, including interference and challenging RF environments.
System Analysis & Resource Optimization
- Conduct system-level trade studies and performance analyses across multi-platform space architectures.
- Evaluate trade-offs involving coverage, throughput, resource utilization, and mission priorities.
- Support optimization of communication resources such as RF bandwidth, transmit power, onboard storage, and scheduling.
Systems Engineering & Integration
- Translate subsystem requirements and constraints into actionable engineering analyses and optimization models.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop accurate system representations and support architecture decision-making.
Modeling, Simulation & Software Development
- Develop, validate, and maintain simulation models and analytical tools.
- Utilize modern software development and configuration management practices, including Git-based workflows.
- Support continuous improvement of simulation frameworks and analysis pipelines.
Data Visualization & Technical Communication
- Create technical visualizations, dashboards, and analytical reports to communicate system performance and trade study results.
- Present findings and recommendations to engineering teams and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 2-5 years of experience in satellite communications, space systems, systems engineering, modeling & simulation, or related disciplines.
- Strong programming skills in Python or MATLAB.
- Solid understanding of digital communications and DSP fundamentals.
- Experience with RF communications analysis, modeling, and simulation tools.
- Familiarity with link budget analysis, coverage analysis, orbital visibility, and space communication system concepts.
- Experience conducting technical trade studies and performance evaluations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Proficiency in both Python and MATLAB.
- Experience with satellite communication systems, mission planning, resource scheduling, or optimization algorithms.
- Experience developing or enhancing modeling and simulation frameworks and tools.
- Familiarity with Git/GitLab, CI/CD workflows, and software development best practices.
- Experience creating advanced technical visualizations, dashboards, or simulation-based presentations.
- Knowledge of space mission operations, constellation analysis, and communications system performance assessment.
