Join our Toyota Material Handling North America team as a Firmware Development Engineer!

The Role:

We're seeking a passionate and dedicated Firmware Development Engineer who brings enthusiasm and expertise to the table. In this role, you'll lthe design, development, and integration of robust firmware solutions for our next-generation products. Your deep expertise in embedded systems, architectural decision-making, and C++ will drive our technical roadmap and innovation. You will also advance our embedded Linux (Yocto Linux) platform to ensure top quality, performance, and security throughout the product lifecycle. We value innovative and creative ideas. What You'll Be Doing:
  • Design and implement firmware for complex, integrated systems while driving design reviews and best practices.
  • Write, review, and document high-quality C++ code; enhance the Embedded Linux platform to meet evolving requirements.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and translate business needs into effective technical strategies.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation to support product innovation from design through deployment.


What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on firmware development experience, preferably in heavy equipment or automotive sectors.
  • Strong expertise in C/C++ with demonstrated proficiency in multi-threading, multi-process programming, object-oriented design, and microcontroller development.
  • Experience with embedded Linux systems (Yocto Linux preferred) and integrating wireless protocols (cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth).
  • Hands-on proficiency with hardware interfaces such as CAN, UART, SPI and I2C.
  • Familiarity with full-stack development concepts in embedded IoT systems, including backend services, APIs, cloud integration (Azure preferred), and UI for embedded applications.
  • Proven capability and enthusiasm for learning and mastering new technologies and tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills.
  • Highly autonomous, adaptable to shifting priorities, with a commitment to continuous learning and Toyota's core values.

  • This is an in-person role located at our Columbus, Indiana office-ideal for those who thrive in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.


What Your Total Compensation & Benefits Package will look like:

Salary - $133,600 - $171,200 per year. Compensation depends on the selected candidate's education and experience.

Relocation: This role may be eligible for relocation assistance.
