Pharmacy Automation – Central Fill & Mail Order

Role Summary
The Technical Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end planning, coordination, and successful delivery of high-volume central fill and mail-order pharmacy automation implementations.
This role oversees complex projects that integrate physical automation systems, software orchestration platforms, system interfaces, and operational workflows across multiple client sites. The position requires strong technical understanding of the full solution stack so that specialized engineering teams (hardware, software, and integration) can be effectively directed and coordinated.
The role involves close collaboration with engineering and product teams in the Netherlands, delivery and support resources in India, and client-facing and operations teams in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Delivery
  • Own the full project lifecycle for central fill and mail-order automation implementations, from requirements through go-live and hypercare.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and status reporting across concurrent multi-site deployments.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for on-time, on-scope, and on-budget delivery.
Technical System Oversight
  • Maintain working knowledge of the complete solution architecture, including:
    • Physical automation (high-volume vial filling systems, unit-of-use dispensers, conveyance, vision inspection, packaging, and sortation)
    • Software orchestration platform (order intake through shipment, inventory, routing, verification, and compliance)
    • Integration layer (interfaces to pharmacy management systems, EHR/EMR platforms, wholesaler systems, and shipping/manifest systems)
    • Process and facility design (material flow, replenishment, staffing models, and space utilization)
  • Identify cross-layer dependencies and risks early and drive resolution across specialized engineering teams.
Design, Requirements & Integration
  • Lead structured requirements intake and ensure velocity analysis, facility constraints, and integration complexity are properly addressed during the design phase.
  • Coordinate interface design, data mapping, and integration testing with client IT and pharmacy systems teams.
  • Review and challenge technical designs to ensure they support throughput, uptime, scalability, and operational realities.
Cross-Geography & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Act as the central coordination point between Netherlands-based engineering/product teams, India-based delivery resources, and U.S.-based client and internal teams.
  • Manage day-to-day communication and alignment with client pharmacy operations, IT, facility, and executive stakeholders.
  • Coordinate third-party vendors, contractors, and internal resources required for installation, commissioning, and go-live.
Execution, Validation & Go-Live
  • Oversee hardware installation, system commissioning, software configuration, end-to-end testing, and validation activities.
  • Ensure training, process readiness, and operational handoff are completed successfully.
  • Drive post-go-live stabilization and continuous improvement activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Pharmacy, Information Systems, Business, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of project management experience delivering complex technology or automation implementations, preferably in healthcare, pharmacy automation, industrial automation, or regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multi-site, multi-stakeholder projects with distributed teams.
  • Strong understanding of systems integration concepts (APIs, interfaces, data flows between enterprise systems).
  • Experience coordinating across engineering, software, operations, and client teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical issues for both engineering and business audiences.
  • Willingness to travel as required for site assessments, installation support, and go-live activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with pharmacy automation, central fill, mail-order pharmacy, or high-volume fulfillment systems.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy management systems, EHR platforms, or medication fulfillment workflows.
  • Prior experience working with international engineering or delivery teams (Europe and/or India).
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification.
  • Background in facility design, material handling, or production-line style automation projects.
Core Competencies
  • Technical curiosity and the ability to rapidly build working knowledge of complex systems
  • Strong systems thinking (ability to see interdependencies across hardware, software, process, and people)
  • Structured problem-solving and risk management
  • Clear, concise stakeholder communication
  • Ability to drive accountability across distributed teams without direct authority
  • Calm under pressure during installation and go-live phases
Success Metrics
  • On-time and on-scope project delivery
  • Successful go-lives with minimal post-implementation issues
  • Effective coordination across Netherlands, India, and U.S. teams
  • High client satisfaction with the implementation process and system readiness
  • Proactive identification and mitigation of technical and operational risks
This role is ideal for a project manager who combines disciplined delivery skills with genuine technical interest in automation systems and who thrives in complex, multi-geography implementation environments.
