Role Overview

Hands-on IBM i developer responsible for analysis, development, enhancement, debugging, and modernization of AS400 applications in a structured DevOps environment.

Technical Skills

IBM i / AS400 Development

• RPG/400
• RPG IV, RPGLE (Free preferred)
• CL/400, CLLE
• DB2/400, SQL
• OS/400
• Query/400
• DSPF, PRTF, IFS
• FTP, QSH, basic XML

DevOps & Development Tools

• MKS Implementer (implementation, configuration, builds, deployments, DevOps integration)
• Git (version control)
• Visual Studio Code (RPGLE/CLLE)
• SEU, PDM, DFU/DBU, SDA, RLU, Hawkeye

Methodology & Architecture

• Full SDLC (analysis through maintenance)
• Debugging & unit testing
• Client-server architecture
• Basic system administration

Responsibilities

• Analyze business requirements and enhance/modify applications
• Develop, test, debug, and optimize RPG/CL programs
• Prepare test plans, effort estimates, and unit test cases
• Troubleshoot production issues and resolve defects
• Provide enhancement, maintenance, and production support
• Deliver status updates and technical documentation

Qualifications

• Proven IBM i / AS400 development experience
• Strong RPG (ILE/Free) and CL programming skills
• Experience with SQL and DB2 file structures
• Ability to reverse-engineer and maintain legacy code
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
