Job Description:
The role of a UI developer with Playwright primarily focuses on automating UI test cases and integrating them into the development lifecycle to ensure application quality and reliability. While core UI developers build the interface, those with Playwright expertise specialize in robust automation and testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Maintain Automation Scripts: Design, develop, and maintain automated end-to-end (E2E) and functional test suites for web applications using the Playwright framework.
- Framework Design: Build or enhance custom automation frameworks using design patterns like the Page Object Model (POM).
- CI/CD Integration: Integrate automated tests into Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Collaboration: Work closely with developers, QA engineers, and product owners in Agile environments to define test strategies and acceptance criteria.
- Execution and Analysis: Execute automation suites, analyze test results, identify defects, and track them to resolution using defect management tools like Jira.
- Cross-Browser Testing: Ensure applications function correctly across various browsers (Chromium, Firefox, WebKit) and platforms.
- Code Quality: Participate in code reviews, enforce coding standards, and implement best practices for maintainable automation code.
- API Testing: Often includes testing RESTful APIs using Playwright's API testing capabilities or tools like Postman to validate backend integrations.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong Playwright Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience in using Playwright for UI automation is mandatory.
- Programming Proficiency: Strong knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript is typically required, though some roles may use Python or Java with Playwright.
- Web Technologies: Solid understanding of web fundamentals including HTML, CSS, the DOM, and browser behavior.
- Version Control: Experience with Git and standard branching strategies for collaborative development.
- Methodologies: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and, often, Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) using tools like Cucumber.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and debugging skills to identify root causes of failures.
