Sr. Electronics Engineer – Telecom & Controls (Onsite)
Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for a Sr. Electronics Engineer – Telecom & Controls for their Vancouver, WA location. This position will provide engineering and field support for one or more communications and control systems for the Power System Control Technical Services group.

Key Responsibilities for Sr. Electronics Engineer – Telecom & Controls:
- Technical Services Group is seeking candidates with experience in one or more of the systems used in support of telecommunications system, industrial control systems, and protective relaying systems:
- Timing systems (GPS, PTP)
- High-speed data transfer (e.g., Transfer Trip between protective relays or Remedial Action Schemes)
- Aggregation of alarms from sensors and RTUs
- Backup power sources (engine generators, 48V battery banks)
- Engineer will be assigned to one or more systems (matched to experience) and will carry out the following responsibilities:
- Provide technical engineering and expertise and act as Subject Matter Expert relative to assigned systems and equipment, for field technicians, design engineers, construction crews, and technical oversight committees.
- Develop maintenance standards and work guides that provide methods and techniques to be followed by technician crews, utilize asset management and maintenance database tools (such as Sunflower, Cascade, and Asset Suite), and prioritize safety in all practices.
- Develop and document procedures for installation, use, and troubleshooting of hardware and software related to assigned systems and equipment.
- Interface with control center personnel and systems to validate proper data integration between field and control center systems.
- Investigate and analyze operating problems associated with complex electronic systems such as those used in the implementation and maintenance of telecommunications or SCADA system; report results and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist in development of standards for planning and design documentation related to new equipment and technology.
- Prepare detailed system specifications, including diagrams, charts, equipment configurations, and recommended technologies.
- Evaluate, recommend for selection, and support test equipment used to troubleshoot or maintain assigned systems and equipment.
- Prepare formal training curriculum and hands-on exercises for assigned systems and equipment; deliver or assist with approved training to end users. Provide ongoing training through classroom, phone or onsite support.
- Monitor and provide guidance to supply chain and Warehouse staff for appropriate spare parts levels for assigned systems and equipment.
- Provide review and recommendations related to the disposition of retired equipment and “parting out” for spares.
- Perform extensive engineering studies, incorporating technological advances in instrumentation, manufacturer designs, and design standards, and considering field conditions and practices.
- Compile technical results and related tables, reports, and graphics on system performance, failure analysis and equipment outages; distribute findings to appropriate personnel or manufactures.
- Coordinate plans of service with stakeholders and implement approved plans for assigned projects.
- Draft work statements, coordinate, and verify the placement of manufacturer/vendor maintenance support agreements.
- Provide project / task updates to manager.
Requirements/Qualifications for Sr. Electronics Engineer – Telecom & Controls:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics engineering is required.
- 10 years of experience and knowledge of electronic engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to one or more of the following is required:
- Timing systems (GPS, PTP)
- High-speed data transfer (e.g., Transfer Trip between protective relays or Remedial Action Schemes)
- Aggregation of alarms from sensors and RTUs
- Backup power sources (engine generators, 48V battery banks)
- Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) or other industrial control systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), or Building Management Systems (BMS) which utilize real-time control, sensor integration, and actuator output within an industrial context. Experience with Process Automation and Instrumentation in automating processes, process variables, sensor calibration, and instrumentation in manufacturing, utilities, or laboratory settings.
- 5 years of direct experience with designing, installing, or maintaining one or more of the systems required above.
- 1 year of providing support service to field users in a utility or industrial environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
