Summary

Mistras is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to provide contract engineering support for ConocoPhillips Alaska. This position will partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Asset Integrity teams to help ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production facilities and associated infrastructure.

The Mechanical Engineer will provide technical expertise across a variety of mechanical systems, support asset integrity initiatives, assist with equipment evaluations, and contribute to the execution of small capital and maintenance projects. This role will work alongside ConocoPhillips staff engineers to resolve day-to-day operational challenges while ensuring compliance with applicable engineering standards and industry best practices.

This position is based in Anchorage, Alaska, with periodic travel to the North Slope required to support field activities and facility operations. Must reside in Alaska or be willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering support to Operations, Maintenance, and Asset Integrity teams across Alaska assets.
  • Assist company mechanical engineers in evaluating the condition and integrity of piping systems, pressure vessels, storage tanks, HVAC systems, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Develop and recommend practical repair solutions to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Review engineering drawings, calculations, technical specifications, and vendor documentation to ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Support the execution of maintenance activities, equipment repairs, and small capital improvement projects.
  • Assist in troubleshooting routine and emergent field issues while providing timely engineering recommendations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure engineering solutions meet safety, regulatory, and operational requirements.
  • Promote compliance with ConocoPhillips engineering standards, industry codes, and asset integrity programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting oil and gas production facilities, petrochemical, refining, pipeline, or similar industrial operations.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair methodologies.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Technical Knowledge

Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and industry standards, including:

  • ASME Section II, VIII, and IX
  • ASME B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8
  • API 570, API 650, and API 653
  • International Mechanical Code (IMC)
  • ASHRAE Standards

Additional experience with the following is highly desirable:

  • Welding processes and procedures
  • Metallurgy and materials engineering
  • QA/QC inspection practices
  • Piping and pipeline inspection and repair methodologies
  • Mechanical stress analysis and piping design

Preferred Software Experience

Experience with one or more of the following engineering applications:

  • SolidWorks
  • AutoPIPE
  • AutoCAD
  • Other mechanical engineering and stress analysis software as applicable
