HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
  • Lead air quality modeling activities related to SIP development, including administering photochemical and/or dispersion modeling runs; task scheduling; postprocessing and analysis of modeling results & data; coordination of activities with other staff; and creating specialized modeling results/data analysis software programs. Interpret and document results; Identify data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies, and redundancies within the modeling data/processes.
  • Oversee the design and planning of modeling databases/programs. Participate in planning future activities related to the environmental data and modeling processes, including evaluation of new modeling technologies and new data analysis techniques. Identify, research, and verify data/procedures for modeling and data analysis databases.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the public, and scientific community regarding air quality and photochemical modeling data. Presents findings to the public, scientific community, and TCEQ management. Conduct peer review of programs for data collection, analysis, and visualization, specifically with regards to photochemical model performance evaluation.
  • Provide technical guidance, advice, and training to staff in the areas of photochemical modeling, databases, and system administration.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with conducting air quality modeling runs and postprocessing results, specifically running CAMx and AERMOD
  • Experience using Unixbased and/or Linuxbased computing systems and with compiling software
  • Experience retrieving (querying), reviewing, and/or analyzing complex data sets, specifically in netCDF format
  • Experience using advanced scientific models and/or software programs and working with scientific data
  • Experience in developing technical documentation
  • Experience communicating technical information to various audiences

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Six years of fulltime experience in data analysis, data research, data

compilation; and/or reporting work.

OR

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, basic science, computer science, environmental science, mathematics, statistics or a related field; plus four years of the required experience.

OR

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; plus, five years of the required experience.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are MF, 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Air Quality Division.
