****MUST LIVE IN AL, TN, GA, MS, FL, OR TX TO BE CONSIDERED TO BE HIRED PERMANENT.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
• Provide primary systems-level support for IBM MQ on the mainframe, managing configuration, availability, and operational health of the message delivery platform used by critical batch and transaction processing workflows
• Administer the DB2 subsystem at the infrastructure level: manage installations, apply maintenance, execute version upgrades and function-level migrations, and maintain configuration standards (DBA-level query work is handled by a separate team)
• Perform performance monitoring, capacity planning, and tuning across both DB2 and MQ environments to ensure throughput, stability, and resource efficiency
• Support and expand the team’s use of BMC tooling within the DB2 and MQ ecosystem; contribute to building out automation and monitoring capabilities
• Participate in an on-call rotation shared among a small team of DB2/MQ systems programmers — rotation runs every other week and requires coordination with teammates to cover during PTO
• Interface with IBM and BMC on product support, patch management, and vendor escalations; collaborate with infrastructure teammates across adjacent mainframe disciplines as needed
Position Requirements:
• 3+ years of experience supporting DB2 at the systems or infrastructure level on the mainframe — focused on subsystem administration, maintenance, and configuration rather than DBA or application development work
• Hands-on experience with IBM MQ (Mainframe) or demonstrated ability and willingness to take on MQ as a primary operational responsibility
• Full availability for an every-other-week on-call rotation; must be comfortable coordinating PTO coverage with teammates and responsive during on-call windows — this is a firm requirement
• Familiarity with z/OS infrastructure concepts; ability to work across the broader mainframe environment and support adjacent systems when needed
• Strong collaboration skills and a low-ego, no-nonsense working style — the team is close-knit, experienced, and values straight-forward communication and mutual support
• Nice to have: BMC tool experience (especially DB2/MQ-adjacent products), workload manager (WLM) configuration, RACF familiarity, Bachelor’s degree
