Summary

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join an Edge team building the software behind automated systems used in animal agriculture. This is a hands-on, backend-focused role where you'll build and support the edge-to-cloud platform that runs on production-floor IoT devices. You'll work with C#, .NET, databases, containers, messaging, and industrial systems while owning features from development through deployment and testing on live equipment.

A growing Animal AgTech organization is using automation, data, and engineering to improve animal welfare, productivity, and efficiency across the poultry, livestock, and aquaculture industries. Its systems replace manual processes with high-throughput, data-driven technology that is deployed in hatcheries and processing facilities around the world.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • At least 1 year in a senior or technical-lead capacity
  • Strong experience with C# and modern .NET
  • Experience building ASP.NET Core REST APIs, background services, and worker services
  • Strong database experience, including relational schema design, indexing, migrations, and query tuning
  • Comfortable writing and reviewing raw SQL
  • Experience with containerization and containerized applications
  • Comfortable working with Linux in a deployment environment
  • Experience with Git, pull requests, and CI/CD
  • Experience with automated unit and integration testing
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including API design, code reviews, refactoring, and technical documentation
  • Experience building and supporting production software
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience with Python for tooling, data analysis, or test automation
  • Experience working with industrial control systems, PLCs, or SCADA systems
  • Familiarity with industrial protocols such as EtherCAT, MODBUS, OPC UA, PROFINET, or EtherNet/IP
  • Experience with Azure services such as Blob Storage, IoT Hub, Container Registry, Managed Identity, or Azure DevOps
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, K3s, or MicroK8s
  • Experience developing software for IoT or embedded devices
  • Experience working with ARM64 hardware and remote device deployments
  • Familiarity with Parquet, Databricks, Synapse, Fabric, or DuckDB
  • Experience with Grafana or other dashboard and visualization tools
  • Experience working with time-series data
  • Experience working with hardware, controls, manufacturing, or other industrial teams
What You Will Be Doing
  • Design and build backend services in C# and modern .NET for the edge platform
  • Develop REST APIs, background workers, message handlers, telemetry services, and long-running device services
  • Own the data pipeline from device data ingestion through cloud storage
  • Design database schemas, data-access layers, migrations, and data retention strategies
  • Build reliable store-and-forward systems for sending data to the cloud during periods of limited connectivity
  • Build and maintain containerized services, deployment configurations, and orchestration
  • Integrate software with industrial controllers and production equipment
  • Design message contracts, register maps, warning and error codes, and controls handshakes
  • Take features from initial work-item breakdown through development, testing, deployment, and field validation
  • Write unit and integration tests and help maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Contribute to system architecture and help identify opportunities for refactoring and improvement
  • Review code and help maintain engineering standards and best practices
  • Mentor junior engineers and help them grow technically
  • Work closely with Controls, HMI, Manufacturing, DevOps, and Field Support teams
  • Troubleshoot software issues on live equipment and help support production deployments
  • Help build reliable software that can run in real-world industrial environments
Benefits
  • Hands-on opportunity to work on IoT, edge computing, automation, and industrial technology
  • Work across software, hardware, cloud, and production systems
  • Opportunity to take ownership of projects from design through deployment
  • Collaborative environment working closely with engineering, controls, manufacturing, and field teams
  • Opportunity to work with modern .NET, Azure, Kubernetes, and container technologies
  • Occasional travel, including approximately 2-8 trips per year for customer visits, conferences, suppliers, and business meetings

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future.
