Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to develop, train, and score machine learning and statistical models supporting demand forecasting initiatives.

This is a hands-on data science position that also requires strong client-facing communication. The Data Scientist will work directly with business stakeholders and collaborate with offshore data science teams, serving as a technical liaison between the groups.

The ideal candidate combines strong Python, machine learning, statistical modeling, and forecasting expertise with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to both technical and business audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, train, validate, and score machine learning models for demand forecasting.

• Develop statistical models to identify patterns, trends, seasonality, and demand drivers.

• Use Python for data analysis, modeling, experimentation, and model development.

• Evaluate model performance and identify opportunities to improve forecasting accuracy.

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand forecasting requirements and translate them into analytical solutions.

• Work closely with distributed and offshore data science teams throughout model development and delivery.

• Serve as a liaison between client stakeholders and technical data science teams.

• Communicate model methodologies, results, assumptions, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.

• Support testing, validation, implementation, and ongoing refinement of forecasting models.

• Build strong working relationships across business, technology, and data science teams.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of hands-on Machine Learning and statistical modeling experience.

• Strong experience building and evaluating predictive or forecasting models.

• Strong Python programming skills.

• Solid understanding of statistical modeling and machine learning techniques.

• Experience working with data throughout the model-development lifecycle.

• Ability to train, score, validate, and evaluate ML models.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience working directly with business/client stakeholders.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with geographically distributed technical teams.

• Ability to work onsite in Chicago 3 days per week.

• Willingness to travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demand forecasting modeling experience.

• Previous experience within the airline industry.

• Understanding of airline demand, operations, or related forecasting use cases.

• Experience with the Julia programming language.

• Experience acting as an onshore liaison between business stakeholders and offshore data science/engineering teams.
