Job Description

At Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), we build the future of the cloud for Enterprises as a diverse team of fellow creators and inventors. We act with the speed and attitude of a start-up, with the scale and customer-focus of the leading enterprise software company in the world.
Values are OCI's foundation and how we deliver excellence. We strive for equity, inclusion, and respect for all. We are committed to the greater good in our products and our actions.

We are constantly learning and taking opportunities to grow our careers and ourselves. We challenge each other to stretch beyond our past to build our future.

You are the builder here. You will be part of a team of really smart, motivated, and diverse people and given the autonomy and support to do your best work. It is a dynamic and flexible workplace where you'll belong and be encouraged.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a manager with distributed systems experience - building cost efficient and scalable systems from scratch. You have led a team covering at least a single service or multiple micro-services within a larger service. You were fully responsible for design, delivery, and operations of all components in this space. You are an expert manager and owned roadmap planning, talent review, and goal setting for your team. You have been responsible for building your team including recruiting, hiring, and performance management.

You've operated high-scale services and understand how to make them more resilient. You have experience working with services that require data to travel long distances, but have to abide by compliance and regulations. You stay up at night thinking about how to protect the service from upstream dependencies. You will be technically strong and get a lot done - you've worked on services that are highly available, scalable, and redundant. You understand that simple systems are easier to operate and troubleshoot. You can balance speed and quality with iteration and incremental improvements. You've made life easier for your developers and have motivated your teams to make both process and service improvements with your ability to automate and instrument properly to get the right data. You understand operational perfection and how to instill a culture of being proactive with your teammates. The person in this role will get a lot done on a daily basis, grow and develop the team and roadmap, drive execution of features and projects, and own feature design.

What are the biggest challenges for the team?

The biggest product challenges for the team are scalability, performance, availability, operations. The growth of the business is driving us to improve the ability of our systems to scale out and handle traffic patterns that are several orders of magnitude greater than what we can support today. We understand that software is living and needs investment. The challenge is making the right trade-offs, communicating those decisions effectively, and crisp execution. We need managers who can lead their team to build services that handle millions of requests per second. We seek managers who can determine how we can survive regional data center outages and protect our customers. We need managers who can enable their team to build services that enable us to offer even more options to customers and contribute to the overall growth of Oracle

This team is targeting candidates in the U.S. who can work ONSITE in Nashville-TN (priority location) or Austin-TX (secondary). Relocation Assistance provided. (This is not a remote position).
