Role summary:
Walmart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the delivery of scalable, secure software solutions aligned with platform and business objectives. This role involves full lifecycle development, including design, coding, testing, and deployment of services, APIs, and AI/ML components. The successful candidate will collaborate across teams to translate complex requirements into effective technical solutions, drive continuous improvement, and ensure high-quality outcomes. Strong technical judgment, proactive problem-solving, and commitment to engineering excellence are essential to support Walmart's mission of delivering reliable and innovative software systems.

About the team:
The Backbone Engineering team combines engineering, UX, and product management to deliver innovative products and site features using open-source technologies such as Java, React, NextJS, and Kubernetes. The team prioritizes scalable, reliable solutions through continuous innovation and iterative development driven by business feedback. Collaboration and technical excellence enable efficient responses to evolving needs. This environment fosters high-quality software delivery via strong teamwork, agile practices, and a commitment to building well-designed, high-performing platforms that generate meaningful business impact.

What you'll do:
  • Own delivery of scoped features and models through collaborative engineering teams, managing implementation, iteration, testing, and support.
  • Write clean, efficient, and reliable code across multiple languages, driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Integrate AI/ML components and leverage generative AI tools to enhance software intelligence and development velocity.
  • Assist in solution design, evaluating trade-offs to build scalable, secure, and maintainable systems aligned with platform objectives.
  • Conduct code reviews, debugging, and defect management to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements and measurable outcomes.
  • Monitor application performance and maintain system reliability through proactive DevOps practices.

What you'll bring:
  • Proven expertise in object-oriented programming and documentation-based coding practices.
  • Strong experience delivering scoped features or models through collaborative engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in debugging, code review, and continuous development with a focus on quality and reliability.
  • Ability to integrate AI/ML components and leverage generative AI tools to enhance software solutions.
  • Demonstrated skill in designing scalable, secure, and maintainable software systems aligned with business goals.
  • Experience driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD, automated testing, and monitoring.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...
