StaffRight Associates is sourcing for a premier defense technology organization to recruit an exceptionally talented Software Engineering Manager for their team in the Binghamton, New York area. This high-impact role balances roughly 80% hands-on technical architecture with 20% team leadership, offering an extraordinary venue for a seasoned developer who thrives on solving mission-critical engineering problems while guiding the growth of a high-performing team. Partnering directly with StaffRight Associates, you will step into a pivotal position driving the long-term vision of advanced real-time software systems supporting vital U.S. defense initiatives.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect, build, and optimize high-reliability code across complex defense platforms throughout the full software development lifecycle.

  • Drive the modernization and enhancement of legacy codebases to boost system responsiveness, maintainability, and architectural integrity.

  • Champion technical discussions, lead rigorous design and code reviews, and resolve deep-level challenges in real-time, embedded, and mission-critical environments.

  • Synthesize cross-functional inputs alongside systems engineering, hardware development, and program leadership to deliver seamless technical integration.

  • Formulate baseline software planning inputs, including BOE generation, IMP creation, and IMS schedule development.

  • Cultivate talent through personalized coaching, individual career roadmaps, goal setting, and objective performance evaluations.

  • Direct team capacity, workload forecasting, and candidate assessment activities to strengthen engineering throughput.

  • Maximize operational excellence by advocating continuous software process enhancements, proposal inputs, and strict adherence to technical standards.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely aligned technical field.

  • Active U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance (or higher) with an investigation refreshed within the past five years, plus U.S. Citizenship and the capability to secure Special Access Authorizations.

  • Eight or more years of professional software engineering experience, paired with at least two years demonstrated as a technical lead, team lead, or engineering supervisor.

  • Proficiency in C, C++, Python, or C# programming.

  • Track record of building mission-critical solutions in Defense, Aerospace, Embedded Systems, Simulation, or Real-Time Applications.

  • Hands-on knowledge of program planning frameworks including BOEs, IMPs, and IMS Development.

  • Comprehensive grasp of software delivery practices across Agile Frameworks, Scrum, Waterfall, or Hybrid Methodologies.

  • Capability to work on-site in Binghamton, New York, with willingness to support periodic extended schedules and occasional travel as program milestones require.

  • Exposure to Multi-Threaded Applications, Software Architecture, System Integration And Verification, or Technical Proposal Development is highly advantageous.

Compensation & Total Rewards

  • Annual Base Salary: $150,000 – $180,000 per year.
