Job Description: Linux-AIX Consultant
Roles and Responsibilities for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)(secondary Skill Set) and IBM AIX (Primary Skill set)
Overview
The RHEL and AIX Systems Engineer is responsible for managing, administering, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise server environments (Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and IBM AIX) operating systems. Candidate should have experience in on-prem & cloud ecosystem (AWS). This position requires a deep understanding of Unix/Linux systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of mission-critical infrastructure. The Systems Administrator works within IT infrastructure teams, supporting both on-premises and cloud-based environments
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain RHEL and AIX servers, including system updates, patching, and hardware integration.
- Installing, configuring and maintaining Unix/Linux Servers / Virtualization
- Should have experience on Linux AWS ecosystem
- Monitor system health, performance, and resource utilization to ensure optimal operation and uptime.
- Perform routine backup and recovery operations, ensuring data integrity and disaster recovery readiness.
- Installation and configuration of HA environment using Linux cluster or Veritas Cluster
- Implement and manage security measures including user access controls, firewall rules, and vulnerability assessments.
- Troubleshoot system issues, hardware failures, and application errors, providing timely resolution and documentation.
- Automate system tasks and deployments using shell scripting, Ansible, or other automation tools.
- Collaborate with application teams to support software installations, migrations, and upgrades on RHEL and AIX platforms.
- Maintain system documentation, configuration standards, and change management records.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry best practices for Unix/Linux environments.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience administering RHEL and/or AIX systems in a production environment (on-prem & cloud).
- Strong knowledge of system internals, networking, storage, and virtualization technologies.
- Understanding of SAN and NAS storage
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, KornShell, Python, etc.) for automation and system management.
- Familiarity with configuration management and monitoring tools (e.g., Ansible, Nagios, IBM PowerVC).
- Understanding of IT security principles and practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Certifications such as RHCSA/RHCE (Red Hat Certified System Administrator/Engineer) and IBM Certified Advanced Technical Expert (CATE) are a plus.
- Experience on following will be added advantage Samba, DNS, NIS, Send mail / Exim / Postfix / Qmail, LDAP
Preferred Experience
- Experience with high-availability and clustering solutions on RHEL or AIX.
- Knowledge of storage area networks (SAN), logical volume management (LVM), and backup solutions.
- Experience supporting compliance and audit processes (PCI-DSS, HIPAA, SOX, etc.).

Compensation and Benefits
A candidate s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies.
