Job#: 3028193 Job Description: OverviewWe are seeking a highly strategic and technically hands-on Data Engineer to help re-architect and re-imagine how data flows across our network organization. This role will play a critical part in improving the stability, scalability, and reliability of our data ecosystem, with a strong initial focus on strategy and design before transitioning into long-term maintenance and optimization.
This individual will work deeply "in the weeds" to fully understand existing systems end-to-end, identify pain points, and design data solutions that are resilient and future-proof. The work directly supports Network Evolution initiatives, including nationwide improvements to network architecture and deployment of new tools designed to enable near fiber-like internet speeds.
Key Responsibilities:Data Architecture & Strategy- Re-architect and re-imagine existing data flows to improve stability, scalability, and reliability
- Lead the upfront strategy phase (approximately 75% of the role initially), including analysis, design, and roadmap development
- Develop frameworks and best practices to ensure data solutions do not break easily and can scale with network growth
- Deeply analyze existing systems and processes to understand how data is generated, transformed, and consumed
Engineering & Implementation- Design and build data pipelines using Python and SQL as primary technologies
- Support construction plan data and other network-related datasets, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and usability
- Partner with analytics teams to shift solutions toward more robust engineering-driven approaches
- Utilize tools such as Alteryx where applicable (experience beneficial but not required)
Program Management & Reporting- Maintain detailed plans and records related to data initiatives
- Track timelines, milestones, risks, and dependencies
- Provide ongoing status reporting and clear visibility into progress and outcomes
- Ensure alignment between data engineering efforts and broader network evolution goals
Collaboration & Communication- Regular interaction and overlap across multiple cross-functional teams
- Act as a trusted thought partner to analytics, engineering, and network teams
- Apply a consulting mindset-asking the right questions, influencing stakeholders, and driving clarity in ambiguous environments
Required Qualifications- Strong background in Data Engineering or closely related technical roles
- Advanced hands-on experience with Python and SQL
- Proven ability to design, re-architect, and optimize complex data flows and systems
- Experience working in highly analytical or data-heavy environments
- Comfortable operating at both strategic and execution levels
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications- Experience supporting network, infrastructure, construction, or large-scale operational data
- Consulting or advisory experience, formally or informally
- Familiarity with data workflow tools such as Alteryx
- Experience moving teams from analytics-heavy solutions toward more engineered, scalable systems
