Windows System engineer (SCCM/SCOM) - Chicago, IL - No H1b, OPT and CPT

Job Title: Windows System Engineer (SCCM/SCOM) Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid remote may be provided to the right candidate)
Duration: 6 months with possible extension
Visa: All visas workable except H1B, OPT and CPT Candidate Requirement: Local candidates only Work Schedule: Primarily daytime (8:00 AM 4:00 PM); 24x7 operation with night work and overnight on-call rotation

Job Summary

We are seeking a Windows System Engineer who can work across all aspects of server operations, including SCCM, SCOM, VMware, and Dynatrace. The engineer will support approximately 200 servers and be responsible for troubleshooting server-related issues. The team includes experienced members, and candidates who are comfortable with repetitive operational work are encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-end responsibility for server operations, including OS, hardware, patching, firmware, BIOS, and service packs
• Maintain and manage server hardware and software to ensure stability and availability 24x7x365
• Ensure enterprise standards and security policies are maintained and enforced
• Provide troubleshooting expertise during incidents and problem management follow-ups
• Perform root cause analysis and recommend problem avoidance strategies
• Implement changes, releases, and upgrades into the environment
• Support platform performance and availability through monitoring, tuning, and timely service restoration
• Participate in capacity planning, workload modeling, system maintenance, performance tuning, and diagnostics
• Provide consultation and technical support for lifecycle planning, integration, and systems programming

Required Skills & Experience

• Senior-level enterprise experience troubleshooting Windows Server OS and Failover Cluster Manager
• Microsoft System Center experience
• SCCM / SCOM / Orchestrator
• VMware experience
• PowerShell or scripting experience
• Windows Server 2012 2022
• Microsoft infrastructure services: Hyper-V, DNS, DHCP
• Server maintenance including patching of standalone and clustered servers
• Windows Server Clustering
• Load Balancing Technologies (F5)
• Patch Management
• Experience supporting large server environments
• 3 5 years of IT experience supporting large data center environments (1,500+ servers, geographically dispersed)
